Hello all,
I can see why the "wally-walk" when one gets their first CCL, but what is the deal with the nachos that I've been reading about? I hafta know, since I will have my very first CCL very soon. Don't want to break from tradition after all, if it is indeed a tradition.....

Stopping snd eating. Messy, good and not good for you. You might have to get up and retrieve more napkins, refills on soda (if you can't stand the heat). I believe Llwatson suggested a hot dog if you don't want the nachos but it had to be with all the fixin's.
Besides, nachos is a Texas thing. If this was New England it would be boiled meat, boiled carrots, and boiled potatoes.

Unless it was, say, Boston -- Then it'd be "Chowdah"
As a bonus: You'd get to eat it off the backs of all the ordinary folks who never have a chance to get a license or permit -- since they're not special friends of the Chief of Police, or otherwise ordained by the powers that be.
Legal Citizens? Bear arms? Not in Beantown...
One more reason I say: God Bless Texas!

Well, if the WalMart has a MickeyD's, you can do your CHL initiation there.
Or if your WalMart has a nail salon, you can get your claws trimmed......
enjoy your new CHL, and carry with pride.

Now while we all joke about the Wally Walk, it is important, especially the nachos! Not McDonald's; NACHOS! For me, the nachos gave me my first CHL reality check. I almost spilled the dish on myself and thus had cheese (if that's what it really is...) all over both sets of fingers. Had to get up for napkins, and guess what you can't adjust when you're covered in cheese? That's right, your gun.
Come on PhilR. just eat your nachos. All the cool kids are doing it!

No true tradition, of course. Your first "Wally Walk" can just as easily be a stroll around the neighborhood, a quick run to the gas station or the grocery store. My "Wally Walk" was a trip to Academy to pick up a new Smith & Wesson 908 pistol.
Not sure where the nachos thing comes into play, just heard many jokes made of it.

My wally walk was going out to eat with the wife. had to make sure she knew to sit on the correct side of the booth so i could face pistol side in. Plus i try to stay out of wall mart as much as i can, and target is closer anyway...

I did Wally Walk with McDonalds and Sams hotdog and drink, on the same day since they are next door to each other.

Wow! What a difference a few months make. I used to constantly worry if I was "printing" and tried to be aware of how I bent and reached for things....
Less a year later it's just part of daily life. No different than my wallet. Weird.
BUT I went to Wally World for my first out of the house trip. Bought ammo if I remember correctly, been armed ever since. Skipped the nacho's :)
Man, time flies.....

The origin of the nachos story (from what I've read) is that it was a comment for all the newly-licensed people who ask if they should buy a CHL badge. Instead of spending the money on the badge, you should spend it on nachos.
The Wally Walk and nachos just got combined into one story because they were common answers to newbie questions.

Certainly a much better use of a few bucks.
Well, I did the Wally-walk last saturday. Had to skip the nachos in lieu of a real lunch, so I will have to throw myself at the readerships collective feet and beg for forgiveness.
Didn't really feel any different. I guess all those years of having to carry a concealed weapon when I was in the military kinda got me used to it, even if it was a few years ago. I'm just glad I can carry something smaller than a sidearm.....
