Will a Browning Model 92 in .44 Mag reliably feed, fire, and eject .44 Specials? A neighbor may be willing to part with his, but I don't want to plink with .44 Mags--too expensive and too much recoil.

In the quick glance I gave it, I only saw it mention .44 magnum.

Thanks. I read it and didn't see any mention of anything except .44 Mag, either. So I may pass on this one and buy the Model 94 in 30-30 that I mentioned in my other posting--the one with the loose trigger.

Owned a Browning 92 years back and it fed both specials and mags without issue. OAL between the two cartiridges is just .11 inches.... you might have more issue with certain bullet profiles than the length of the cartridges. Just be sure to clean the chamber as you would in a revolver so you don't get a buildup that might cause pressure issues and you should be good to go.

philbo is right on. Bullet profile is likely more important than cartridge length. And if you own .44 mags, you really need to reload. I love the .44 magnum cartridge for its versatility. I run mine from light plinking loads using Trail Boss, through mid-power (the space between .44 spl and .44 mag) loads with Unique, up to heavy hunting loads over 2400. Experimenting with different powders and bullet weights/configurations you can do a lot with a .44 magnum ... including finding multiple loads appropriate to a Browning 92.

Browning (Miroku) '92s are exceptionally nice rifles.

Trailboss plinking loads in .44 mag are a tremendous gigglefest with my Marlin. I usually load them for my S&W 629, but tried them out in the rifle when I first got it. It's like shooting a .22LR that has some decent authority downrange. I get about 1025fps from a 240gr slug out of the rifle. Not a lot of power rifle wise, but more than a .45acp from my 1911 so pretty decent at tin cans and other plinkables. Very little recoil. Tons of fun.

.44 Mag has become my goto round for reloading as it is just so versatile and the straight wall case makes it a snap. Anything from 180gr XTPs over H110 (those get downrange in a hurry) to Bayou Bullets 240gr SWC over Trailboss and lots of loads/bullets in between. It's much more economical to feed this way as well.
