Just got back from sighting in 2 new Ruger American rifles in .243 and 6.5 Creedmoor. .243 has a 3x9x40 Nikon Buckmaster mounted and the 6.5 has a 4.5x14x44 Minox ZV-3. Both guns are 1 1/2" high at 100 yards. .243 shot 100gr Hornady Interloks and 6.5 was Hornady 120gr A-Max.

My wife shot both rifles in and after rough sighting we moved to paper at 100 yards. The .243 is good but not as tight as the 6.5, her first 3 shots on paper can be covered with a nickel out of the 6.5 rifle. Think I am going to like the Creedmoor a lot. Ruger has hit a homerun with these American rifles.

I would post a picture of her 3 shot group but I can barely work this computer as it is. She was tickled to death with her shooting of the 6.5 Creedmoor. I turned her loose with the rest of the box of shells on clay pigeons for targets at 225 yards on the backstop and watched 7 out of 8 clays disappear in 8 shots.

Ruger makes some nice rifles at a great price and the Minox glass is pretty good. Can't wait to get on some long range coyotes with this gun.

I have a Ruger American in 308 I agree they are,awesome. Mine is in stainless steel, and it is the smoothest rifle I've shot in a long time. At 100 yards I can put 5 in a hole the size of a quarter. The recoil is amazingly low, for a lightweight rifle. I need to get it back out to the range again soon.

I like to hear this about the 6.5 Creedmoor since it is a caliber I'm considering for my next rifle.

Yeah, we gotta give it up to Ruger. At their price-points, I don't know that anything on the market really compares to the Ruger American and Ruger Precision rifles.

Andy it sounds like you had a great day with your rifle and the long range target. We use the clays for rough sighting and then fine tune on paper at 100 yards. Works well on rifles that are not boresighted.

Any clays left over after paper she gets to shoot so as to keep in practice. She really enjoys shooting.

Swapping a wife off and getting two rifles in trade sounds like a good deal, but I have 42 years invested in her so I*'ll just keep her and buy rifles.

I figured it was a trade...wife for two new rifles!

Thanks for the range report. I'm hearing good things about the Ruger American. I've been a fan of Ruger revolvers for a long time, but don't have much experience with their centerfire rifles. Have the obligatory 10/22, of course.

I'm interested in your cartridge selection. Was that "his" and "hers" versions?

Nope, just ammo we had on hand. 6.5 ammo will stay the same and .243 will get to try a different ammo to see what it likes best.
