7 Men, 7
That's only 2 bullets per home invader if your 9mm has 14 rounds.

If you shoot a couple of them, I would be willing to bet the others will be headed out the door in a big hurry.

That's why you should invest in a .45... only need one shot per BG

I have my weapons, but my first line of defense are my dogs who will make sure I wake up to use the weapons

The biggest missing piece of information is why this particular family may have been targeted. Beyond the possible motive for targeting this family, we also don't know from the article if this family has considered home defense in any way. Most of us here understand that there should be layers in our overall home defense strategy -- early warning, hardened (as compared to most other homes) access points, defensive tools, and defensive planning. Obviously somewhere this family either let their guard down when they shouldn't have, or they didn't really have a guard to let down. I am glad the criminals were more interested in property crimes than violent crimes in this case.

As a 9mm Glock runner, that is still funny as heck right there! Well played, sir. Well played.

The first guy will be red mist. The rest of the guys will be knocked back by the shockwave. You won't have to fire a second round.

Dogs trained in protection
Glock 21SF with light and 14 rounds
M4 with light and 40 rounds
However, 7 is a crowd. I would bet that after I fire the first round(s) that the intruders will probably scatter like roaches, but won't concede that at least one of them wouldn't also return fire.
I know there are some folks out there that think their dogs will stop an intruder, but so did the owner of this dog. There are others that know their dogs are not up to this and realize they are little more than alarms.

My dogs have been through training like this and passed this test. When I trained dogs like this most dogs that people brought in that thought their dogs were "beasts" were lucky if they were as good as this first dog. Many of them wet themselves or ran away and wouldn't even stay and bark at the "attacker."
And then there is this type of dog. I've had a couple like this before. I think we all have.

I'm OK as long as the robbers are dressed in grey with a leather bag on their shoulder with mail in it.
