I mailed my aplication to the DPS on 7-2-07 via certified mail and still have not even recived my letter in the mail with my pin number to use on the DPS website. (as of 7-21) i would really like to check my status but the pin is holding me up. not to mention, that seems like a really long time to have not recieved it, so i'm kinda getting worried that it has been lost. i emailed the DPS about it, anybody know of anything else i should do?

You may call the CHL Bureau at the following telephone number if you haven't received a PIN in 30 days. The DPS/CHL is likely to take around 30 days to issue and mail a PIN.
Once you receive your PIN, you can then login at the website URL below and proceed to check your application status. Scroll to the bottom of the web page and click the "Continue" button. This will direct you to a secured web page (https) where you will be asked for your DL information, SSN, DOB, and the PIN that was issued by the DPS/CHL.
Alternatively, you may send an electronic mail (e-mail) to:
chl@txdps.state.tx.us
Telephone Number:
For assistance in completing application:
1-800-224-5744
For technical assistance:
1-877-452-9060
I am not sure how much information they will need to check for you. If you call them, they will let you know. I think they would prefer you not to check for a PIN before 30 days, but be aware that it is your application and you should stay on top of its status so it is up to you to decide when to call them.
To check you status and for contact information, browse to the web page below:

Good luck and welcome to the room.
