Traveling long distance with your edc...

I had a discussion with a friend of mine about traveling long distance. He told me that when he travels with his family out of town, he normally carries his edc and bring his ar 15 also. Normally, when I go on family trips, I just bring my glock 19 and 2 spare mags. Now, I was just curious on what the members here actually would bring along with them if they were traveling out of town on a family trip. Do u guys just bring your normal edc or do u bring an extra firearm/rifle with u? :txflag: :fire

Any overnight travel I always take an extra gun with me .. Keep it in either my side or my wifes. The extra gun is full sized 9mm. and might be more accurate at a distance. I may or may not have extra mags with me. I don't bother with the extra gun when I'm running around town and doing errands

I have a dedicated "car gun", so whenever I am travelling, I will have that gun and my EDC. I might bring a rifle as well, but it would depend in large part on where we were going and whether we were bringing the kids.

BTW, my "car gun" is a bit bigger than a carry gun. Right now, it is a Calico M950, but I am thinking of possibly swapping it out for a CZ Scorpion pistol. I also have a Mossberg shockwave on order.

If not flying (I usually check my 1911 in a TSA approved vault) I do carry my S&W M&P9 w/ three mags, extra boxes of ammo and my AR broken down in a Nike baseball bag, cleaning kit, 4 mags in the back of the van. If it can "Hit the Fan" while I'm at home, it could happen while I'm eight hours away, too. Just be sure to know the laws of the state you travel in. While not strictly an EDC, I have my BOB, water, food, and blankets, depending on the time of year on those long trips.

Depending on my method of travel my wife and I both carry our M &P 9s, I will often throw in my Mossberg 500 with a bandoleer with 00 buck, #1 Buck, and slugs. As I get more proficient with my AR, it might get included, we haven't traveled far in the last few years, so we seldom venture out of State, so I don't worry too much about legal repercussions.

Usually just the gun(s) needed during my trip. Which normally includes 2 pistols (my 1911 in .45 and a small 9mm) that would be my carry during my various dress levels while gone.

When I go to California in May, I'll be bringing along my G26, and either my Mossberg 590A1 or my Marlin 336. I'll be towing a travel trailer, and plan on possibly overnighting at unimproved camping sites on the way. My wife will bring her G43.

After reading everyone's input, it made me think differently now. I never even bothered to think that I should bring a backup firearm besides my edc. I guess you have to be prepared for the unexpected when traveling long distances also. Your family's safety is your number 1 priority.

Usually my two EDC's backup mags for them as well as my AR. But I have left the AR at home more and more as my AR9 pistol that takes my Glock 9mm mags can fit in my small sling pack. Lighter and it takes same mags and ammo as my G19. Two is one, one is none

Just curious but I always thought you could not bring a firearm while travelling in California. I've always wanted to go camping at one of the National Parks but not being able to bring a firearm with me has always kept me from even considering a trip there.

I always have an AR of some sort with me, even to run errands. This is in addition to a pistol. On a trip it's 2 pistols and an AR.

It depends on where I'm going and who I'm travelling with and how I'm/we're getting there. Sometimes it's better to leave all firearms at home. :(

Sometimes I'll take just what I can conceal and other times I'll also take the M4 with several loaded mags.

I believe you can carry a weapon without a license if it is unloaded and carried in the trunk or a separate locked box..... Cannot be the glovebox. Remember any mags need to be 10 rounds or less.

I take my EDC, usually Shield 9mm with extra mag, plus another mag in console. I also put an XD Mod 2 .45 with 2 13 red mags in drivers door storage compartment.

I have taken several out of sate trips since getting my CHL in 2013. The only change I might make is to carry more ammunition as a hedge against high prices.
