Just thought I'd share where it might be appreciated, my wife's father recently cane into possession of this colt 1911 that by serial number was produced in 1913. Not really sure what it would be worth, but it's still a nice gun that is in decent shape. He has shot it done and said it all works like new.

Oh you found the .45 I carried for Officer of the Deck duty in US Navy in 1988.... Probably saw service with the doughboys against Kaiser "Bill"...

I'd love for it to be my 45, if it was I'd have to build a nice display for that one. Amazing that a 104 year old gun is still around and completely functional.

It's hard to decide what to do with a gun like that. So much history, so much character, it would be hard to change it at all.

Beautiful! Almost looks like it's in the white. Magazine is correct for the 1911. Grips questionable for the period, but one that definitely needs to go in a display case!

It really is a cool gun. Piece of history undoubtedly. I remember hearing stories of some WWII bring backs from some older vets when I was a kid.

When clearing it when I got to check it out, it is still very tight, feels pretty much like my much more modern rock island. It does need some cleaning though, felt some grit in the trigger when I pulled it to lower the hammer after clearing.

I definitely wouldn't change a thing. I might keep it in a display case, but would definitely be tempted to carry it occasionally.

Nice example. I too have a 1913 mfg 1911 S/N 21xxx. Mine was obviously redone at some (or perhaps many) time(s) as when I received it, it had an arched A1 Mainspring Housing (some armorer at some point replaced the original flat), but all the patent dates on the slide are correct for the time period of the frame. Only shoot it a couple of times a year and then use light reloads, but just imagining the possible history is amazing.

Display it, keep it functional, shoot it, and enjoy the history.

I have my dad's WW2 bring-back, a 1943 Ithaca 1911A1, in very good condition. Here it is with my 1943 Inland Carbine:
