Why did the Muslim women leave the scene after two men gave their lives to prevent them from hearing hate speech? They could not hang around for a few minutes to give the police a statement?

There are crazy people- lots of them.

The courts just don't do their job and let these nuts out to kill and injure others. The issue for me is that the women being accosted didn't even stay to give a police report. I guess they just didn't want to be involved. Three others were involved trying to be good samaritans and two paid for it with their lives. We have had this issue discussed before. Should one get involved in what was a non force incident? Apparently the victims did not have an equalizer to this man's knife.

No. I left the post and had to come back to respond to this. Call me "left", but I will not sit back and watch someone exercise "free-speech" aggressively on anyone like that. Especially to women. I would've stood up and said something as well.

I wasn't there and I don't know, but the way WP makes it sound, yes i would. Now, it being the WP, probably didn't happen ANY THING like they explained!

The man who attacked two men on a train in Portland, voted for Bernie, and was reported by Trump supporters to the police. They felt he was a false flag. Liked to do the Hitler salute to attract attention to himself.

Obviously insane.

It sounds like this guy has a history of ranting and making a spectacle of himself at rallies and marches in Portland. I read another article that Trump supporters previously reported him to police and thought he was an agent provocateur.

I don't know Oregon law but I was taught in Texas force is not justified in response to speech alone. The WaPo article doesn't have enough details to know if the three men tried to shut him up by force and he defended himself. I think if he was the physical aggressor toward the three men, the press would be sure to say that. I think if he physically assaulted the women, the press would be sure to say that. I don't know what happened on that train and hope there is video that shows the actual events.

I've experienced these sorts of crazies quite often when I worked in downtown Houston.

That this story ended in tragedy is a horror, but hate speech, no.

Trump in trouble for waiting 3 days to mention the deaths and not condemning the actions of the " white supremacist"

Thought I would chime in here as I was in Portland when this happened and saw a large amount of local news coverage. I believe killer had a run in on pdx transit the day before and was maced by a woman. There is reportedly a video of killer (also taken the day before) talking on his phone about the macing incident and stating something along the line of he wanted to stab someone.

Just sad. I am glad we weren't there.

I guess the mayor has given in to the anarchists, and will tolerate anything they want to do, but not allow free speech. Looks like it way past time for them to take back their city, and kick out all of the socialist politicians, who created this atmosphere.

The part highlighted above concerns me greatly. The fastest and easiest way to shut down those you disagree with is to threaten violence and thus stifle their voice?

That sounds an awful lot like fascism to me.
