Does it have anything to do with becoming the wife of a LEO?

Now she has her LTC, a Springfield XDs(9) and a Springfield XD Mod 2(40). Last night she was talking about wanting to get a revolver and today we went to Academy and a Pawn Shop so she can look at revolvers. While looking, she asked if I wanted to get a shotgun. Um, YEAH!

She's still undecided on which revolver, but I'm considering the Mossberg Maverick 88. If I follow through, I may have to join a 3-gun competition soon

I believe I have converted her :thewave
Good job sbrawley! The Maverick 88 is Mossberg's cheaper version of the 500. It's a good gun, but for some reason, they relocated the safety from their trademark, top tang, to near the trigger guard. Not necessarily a deal breaker, but I didn't notice it until I got one for my son. Glad your wife is becoming more comfortable shooting and carrying. Have her jump on more often. I haven't seen many posts from her lately.

I agree. Good job and the 500 over the Maverick is probably a better pick. The 20ga will make it more fun for your wife to shoot too. And maybe that will help open the door for a semi-auto 12ga later for 3 gun. ;-)

The 20ga will feel like a softer shooter to you then. At least, assuming the new 500 weighs about the same as the 12ga you're used to. If your wife is new to shotguns or recoil sensitive I'd think it would be a good idea to buy low recoil target loads. I think all the major manufacturers make low recoil 20ga. I personally wouldn't want the LRs in the tube for possible home defense, but for taking her out for range days. You might even hope she's a little bit recoil sensitive because that would support your argument for a nice semi-auto 12ga like a Benelli M2 later for 3-gun. The gas system soaks up a lot of recoil just in cycling and she'd enjoy shooting it more than a pump. I've shot my Rem 870 and an M2 side by side and there's a definite difference in felt recoil.
