Scary situation and a tactical nightmare for the good guys.

That is one scary situation. Positive point: They called 911 right away. Negative points: They confronted the perps by keeping the headlights on the bad guys without a means of defense and only had the car for cover.

I really feel they should have drove away as soon as they saw the bad guys. Calling 911 was the only thing they did right. Thank goodness they were not shot. Bullets go right through car doors. Even if armed, sitting in the parked car makes you a stationary target.

Some decisions aren't very clear cut. These girls seemed very young to me. Glad they were unscathed.
This would be a good time for a little prayer,
Seriously, His guidance and hand has always proved to be there for me in the most desperate of times.
Running away while their mom was still in the house might have been the smartest thing to do, but I don't think I could just abandon a loved one like that. It's one of the reasons I carry a gun. I would have yelled and screamed drawing attention to myself and away from the house, Whether I was armed or not. It is very clear that the Moms safety was foremost on the girls' mind.
Like I said maybe not the smartest thing to do. But we only get one mom and I would want to stall for time until help got there.

I can't argue with that Liberty. I will say that what I would have done is very different than what I think two unarmed females should do.
Me... I would have run smack onto the thug in the tree with my pickup, jumped out and opened fire on any thug that showed his face and was not running like the wind out of there. That is if my mom were in the house and at risk.

Just realized this happened in my old subdivision. Nice one too. Which could be why it was targeted. That street is a short one at the back of an offshoot so not many other houses to worry about.

Note to self: When coming upon 2 strangers hiding in my back yard at 4 am and I am unarmed, retreat to your rifle or shotgun before calling 911. And in no case try and video it on my iPhone.
Did they really think they were both hidden by the skinny tree.

I noticed the BG had his eyes covered so they couldn't see him.

There once was a man who said 'Hush!',
'I perceive a young bird in this bush'.
When asked 'is it small?',
He replied 'Not at all',
'It's four times as big as the bush!'
( I can never remember if I should blame Edward Lear, or Ogden Nash for that one)
Most of the trainings I have been exposed to emphasized along the lines of "very few things actually constitute (bullet-resistant) cover" and that "not every thing you THINK is concealment, can actually be counted on as such".
(especially if the 'concealment' is smaller than you are........)
