Yup. There are often consequences for our actions like leaving the keys in your vehicle with some stranger you just met.

I do wonder if the grand jury will indict since the incident took place at night.

Happened at night and there is still a lot of this story that has not been told. This has all the makings of a "Dumbest Criminal" episode. Then maybe not. :skep:

He may have said too much to the police.

And maybe not the right things.

I notice it said he was taken into custody but no charges yet. Could be they just need to conduct an investigation. Questions that could need answering before deciding to let the guy loose could include:

1. Was the guy carrying legally?
2. Was it actually his truck being stolen?
3. Did the woman go with him willingly with intent to steal the truck, or was she fleeing out of fear while he was distracted?
4. Did the shooting recklessly endanger others, especially given that the thief ran the red light and caused the accident because she was fleeing gunfire?
5. Does the man's use of deadly force meet the provision of law that states the actor must believe he cannot recover his property any other way?

If everything is legit, it seems pretty clear that the law would support his use of deadly force to stop theft during the night time, but there are plently of questions that need answering before making that call. Detainment seems warranted IMO.

Woman has long criminal history. Previously arrested for prostitution and unauthorized use of motor vehicle.

It was his pick up truck.

https://www.click2houston.com/news/woma ... police-say

TV showed a motel with lots of signs at the front door like "maximum two people per room".

Heck, here in Houston, a few years back, a guy's truck was being repossessed from his house. He stepped out the front door and shot the repo man dead with a 30-30. He didn't get arrested or charged. This case seems even more legit than the repo man case was.

Based on the story, the 'victims' previous charges, and such I wonder if a claim of self defense or defense of property can be made as it looks like he may have been committing a criminal act himself (solicitation of a prostitute).

Possibly, the article, doesn't say why he was taken into custody, nor does it mention, whether or not he is LTC holder. My guess, is that, since most people who patronize ladies of the evening, are usually not, church deacons, he may have had warrants, or he was a felon in possession, of a firearm. Since he had the gun, on his person, and was not on his property, or property he controlled, it may have just been a UCW charge.

I can imagine, the nightmare of a crime scene, starting at a motel and spreading out into the street, to an intersection, where an accident occurred, to the search for the "truck rustler". It is often easier to take everyone in, and sort out the details at the station JMHO

Note to male truck drivers: Don’t take strange women to motels so you don’t have to shoot her for rustling your truck :biggrinjester:

As someone said in the comments "The women get prettier at closing time." The guy must have consumed a lot of alcohol and been really desperate. :biggrinjester:
