Hello all, so I’ve recently gotten ahold of a Glock 17 Gen 4. It’s a great shooting gun. But the previous owner painted the frame. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with removing the paint and restoring the frame back to factory?

Possibly acetone but I fear a lot of it would hurt the plastic. I did recently strip spray paint off a 22 rifle with it and it didn’t hurt it. I was careful to wipe it quickly. It took some time but it came off

Any idea what kind of paint? Some paint will come off easily and some not so much.
I would think that a stiff brush and some acetone would do it. I don't think acetone will hurt the plastic. You can always try a small spot underneath, JIC.

I’ve heard from a few people that say acetone free nail polish remover works well. I am a little hesitant to use acetone on the frame. I have no clue what kind of paint as I got the gun used and the previous owner says he didn’t paint it.

An idea... Take some acetone on a q-tip and swab a small spot in the back of the [inside of the] grip. Do this where the infamous glock butt plug goes, so that if there was an issue there would be no where visible and no damage to a critical area.
Remember, acetone [which most nail polish remover is] comes in plastic bottles of various types.

I am an expert in this subject! The gun is lost cause and you should just give it to me and buy a new one. Tell the wife I said it was OK.
