Looking for a under the seat of the car/truck locking box (safe).

I have been looking on several websites and have not located one like I have been looking for. A couple of years ago, a guy showed me one he had in his SUV and have been looking for one like it.

It was a steel cabinet that kind of looked like a cash regrister draw under the front seat. The key for the lock in the front of the drawer was a four sided one. It had loops on the back of the box and a steel cable ran through them and the cable was wrapped around the seat supports and padlocked.

It was thin, but it looked like it would hold two pretty good size guns side by side in the drawer.

Anyone seem one like this? Know where I can look for one?

The guy that showed it to me, was a salesman who called on our office a couple of times, so I can't asked him. When he showed it to me, he did give me a brand name -- which I have long since forgot.

I've bought three, one for both out vehicles and one for my Dad...

You can get them keyed alike as well...

I've purchased one of these by Center-Of-Mass and I've been happy with it.

I also have a Center of Mass box, and it definitely works. I had my vehicle broken into while I was out of town, and they definitely did some serious work on that box (probably only diags or a pocket knife, since they tore up the coating but didn't cut the cable) but were unable to either make off with the box itself or get into it to get its contents.

I have one similar to the center of mass, called Secure-it. I got it at Cabela's.

There is a Secure-it website too, so you can order more than one and have them keyed alike if you want to.

Yep, either the Secure-It or COM will work...Same design and principle...

I really think folks are seeing the flexibility of the design...

Sure, it'll only slow down a determined effort, but the end result is that it will keep your average smash and grabber occupied much longer than they should be if they don't outright steel the vehicle...

I would also consider it a good safe to use for airline travel...Since it is also rated for that use...

My original "gun safe" was a cash box I bought at Walmart. I put a piece of carpet in the bottom so the gun didn't sit on the metal. Not the best thing to use but it at least I could lock up my gun. I now have a COM. It works well.

COM and Secure-It safes are junk. They would be excellent if they were constructed with atleast 16g steel, not 21g, and if they had a better lock assembly and a concealed hinge. The dimensions are perfect for most vehicles.

I have ordered a Fort Knox pistol box which I will set up similar to the COM by using a thick steel cable to secure it to the vehicle. Much better quality, but 3X the price. Just another option. Take a look at other safes and see if the dimensions work for you. You can easily affix a cable to any safe to secure it to your car.

I have a pistol safe mounted underneath the driver's seat of my van. It's called a GunVault. Here's what it looks like:



I got mine at Cabela's for somewhere around $100. So far it has worked well for me

I mounted a piece of 20 gauge sheet steel under my seat using the seat mounting bolts and hung the vault upside-down so that I can simply reach under, punch in the code, and retrieve my pistol. The safe comes with a template for a mounting plate, so you just have to use that to make or mark your mounting surface. Here's some photos (please pardon the trash):





Depending on your vehicle, this setup may or may not work for you. I wanted to make sure my pistols were in place and bolted down with something more than a steel cable. The way it's bolted in there, it would take significant tools in order to get it out. The COM and top-loading boxes weren't really going to work for me, so a front-loader was my only real option. It also hides well.

I was looking around the other day, and I saw that the "GunVault" folks have produced and are selling a "biometric" version of their safe now...

It still has the four finger combination option, but the trigger finger slot has a panel that covers a biometric pad that can open the safe with one finger...

I think that is an incredible jump in ease of use, as that system is hard to spoof...

Unless someone cuts your finger off or something...If that happens you got bigger problems to deal with...

I have two of the COM ones. I like them a lot and they do a great job.

Normally I'll unlock it and put it on the seat next to me and cover it with a jacket or towel and then when I get to my destination, I lock it back up and put it back under the seat.
