Very Nice. It has the pinned barrel and I assume recessed cylinder (P&R) . I think P&R's ended early 80's, so it was made prior to 1982. If you can provide the S/N letter prefix (S or N) and first 3 numbers I'll check my S&W book for manufacture date.

The Standard Catalog of Smith and Wesson with the caveat approximate dates lists N500000 as 1978-80* and N600000 as 1979-1980. The asterisk denotes that the majority of N500000 range revolvers were M28 and M58 and that after 1980 M28 S/N were all merged with other N frame S/N ranges. Confusing - I'd guess your gun was made in 1979. Where did you find your chart? Do you have a link.
Have you had a chance to take it to the range? General George Patton carried the more highly finished and polished version of the N frame .357, a Model 27. He called it his killing gun.

I haven't made it to the range yet, just bought it yesterday and had to go back to work after a long weekend. I'm gonna take it with my to my parents ranch this coming weekend, and I'll get to shoot it there.
