ALWAYS LOOK YOUR BEST

When getting your license picture taken.

Just a suggestion that may have been here before. I always get my Drivers licenses and Concealed Handgun Pictures taken in a coat and tie. Years ago an Asst. DA friend got on me for having a DL picture in the T-shirt, when at the time I wore a coat and tie most days. Her comment was no matter what you looked like in person on those times when you had to show ID, people would treat you better if you looked well in your DL picture. Since then I have always made sure to get my pictures taken on days I was in a coat and tie.

Over the years when I have been driving one mile over the speed limit or whatever the case might be and was asked for my ID (DL & CHL) I have always been treated well after presenting my ID no matter how I looked. Sometimes I can see them take a second look at the license and back at me. Paretically when I was four days unshaved on the way back from hunting.

I credit the coat & tie picture and CHL for the all the times I have been told to slow down and not received a ticket.

Sounds like good advice. I renew my DL in September. I'll try not to go in after having too rough of a day, as I've learned this gives me a rather dissheveled look.

Well, unfortunately...I have 5 years to get my act together...

I think your point is a good one...The only problem is that I'm not sure everyone is ready to see me in a suit and tie when I renew my Texas license... ElGato would probably throw me out of his class...

My Utah has me in bib overalls...

So maybe I need to lose my "Green Acres" look...I thinkn you're right...

In my case I do go get passport photos taken to use on my CHL, rather than have them taken on the day of the class.

verry good stuff! back to the old saw of you don't get a second chance to make a first impression. But you can make that first impression a short process rather than just a take it or leave it proposal.

I gave myself a mohawk and a handlebar mustache for my DL picture. My wife really had fun hanging out with me for the rest of the day before I shaved it off. You have good advice, but I have to have a little fun every now and then.

Interesting suggestion.

My CHL instructor was a San Antonio policemen for a number of years, and is now a DA's investigator. When we get our pictures taken in his class, he exhorts us to smile. He said, roughly (I am paraphrasing from classes three and seven years ago, so this not an exact quote), "Think about it. People don't smile at cops when they are getting pulled over and asked for ID, so a cop goes all day long with everyone making unhappy faces at him. He knows you are not happy about being stopped, but handing over an ID with a bright smile on it is refreshing to the officer. It won't change his mind about big things, but it might adjust his attitude in your favor where his judgement is involved."

So smile in your suit and tie next time!
