I'm having a hard time deciding between the Taurus PT92 and the Beretta P92. There is a $100 dollar difference between the 2 guns. Both guns seem to have an excellent reputation as well as the companys.

This won't be used much for a carry gun. But I might carry it eventually once in a while. I mostly want it too take to the range and make holes in paper.

The Beretta is prettier it just has a nicer finish to me. It doesn't have the rails so it looks a little more streamlined. It might be easier to find a holster for it. I think its made in America, but I'm not sure. I don't have anything against Brazilians but I can't think of anything they have done for us lately. Maybe Berreta has a better name, and the P92 might be worth more in 10 or 20 years.

The Taurus is real good deal for the money. A hundred bucks still buys a lot of 9MM WB. The safety is built on the body rather than the slide, looks like it could actually be more reliable. Maybe the rails could be handy down the road, but I never got all excited about bolting flashlights on my guns. Well maybe a lazer sight. I've heard Taurus buffs claim that this version is actually an enhanced version of the P92. It does come with a 17 round Mag How is it better? Taraus has a life time warentee, I have heard that beretta has good service but I don't know what their warentee is.

Please any opinions, experiances or suggestions are appreciated.

Don't have any experience w/ the Beretta so I can't really vote one way or the other. I have a Taurus PT92 I purchased new in '84 or '85 I've put several 1000 rounds through it and can honestly say it has never once jammed or had a failure to feed. I know its hard to believe, but in this case its a fact. Its one of the earlier original beretta designs w/out the decocker so when I carry it, it goes condition one. Its had a primary diet of Blazer aluminum case or WB. Since its the older design and made back when most everything seemd to be of better quality this might not help your decision much but I wouldn't trade this one for a brand new Baretta....... or Taurus for that matter.

I vote Beretta. I have very little experience with the Taurus other than their revolvers. I believe Taurus makes some fine weapons. I did just pick up a Beretta. Age Ranger is doing a little trigger job on it for me. I think the Beretta is very smooth. I can't wait to put some ammo through it. Without any first hand experience with either - I vote Beretta!

Both are great guns my vote goes to the Taurus I own a PT100 (40 S&W) that has been flawless. I like where the safety/decocker is on the Taurus and having the option of 3 carry modes - - - Cocked and locked, decocked, decocked and locked.

The safety might be the bigest difference between the two guns. I am initially partial to the Beretta because it is most similar to what I am familiar with. The safety on the slide click it up on the draw. Sand DA first shot Sa second shot. Are you saying that the Taurus can be carried with the hammer back?

Yes, the Taurus can be carried cocked and locked just like a 1911 or Hi Power.

I have owned several Berettas over the years. I know there are a lot of Taurus fans - but everytime I have looked at Taurus 92s, the quality doesn't quite come up to par with the Beretta.

Get the Beretta. U will be happier :)

Well, technically, Taurus is made on Beretta tooling in Brazil, so you're essentially getting a wolf in sheeps clothing. However, the overall quality control is alot different and although Beretta customer service has been slipping lately, they're still 100% better than Taurus.

Not sure where you're shopping for your Beretta, but you might check the classifieds over at the Beretta Forum. Lots of great deals to be had. The gun show in Mesquite last weekend had 92's for $350ish. Some lightly used and others for $379 NIB. You can get a NIB M9 for $419 in alot of gun shops now and it's pretty much the norm at gun shows now. Not sure why prices are dropping, but I'm not complaining.

I don't think Taurus makes a decock only model, do they? I know Beretta offers a G model (decock only) in quite a few models but that would depend on your preference I guess. I always carry mine decocked with no safety (G model). Should you prefer a double action only, single action only or DA/SA, Beretta had a 92 that will fit the bill nicely. Especially if you want a SA only but those models will cost you a bit more. Those models could be carried cocked and locked if desired.

As for reliability, Beretta is right up there with other such as Glock, Sig, HK and S&W. Personally, I'd get the Beretta. But, I'm slightly biased as well.

My astrological might be Taurus but I shoot Beretta but it's my everyday carry.

I've owned a Beretta M9/92FS for over 15 years, and she is as reliable and accurate today as she was the day that Dad bestowed her on me! I've never owned a Taurus, but they seem to produce good weapons...however, why by a facsimile (PT92) when you can get the "real McCoy" (92FS) for just a few bucks more?

Plus, if you must have a picatinny rail on the weapon (unnecessary for me), just buy a current M9 instead of the 92FS. My weapon is actually an older M9 without the rail, the newer version (M9A1) is the one with the rail.

Ive noticed the finish on the Berreta is just a bit nicer. Still, Taurus has a lifetime warrentee. I don't know about Beretta

I like shooting with a lighter trigger, SA and comfortable with DA/SA safety action. I must admit though I'm intrigued at the cocked and locked possibilities with the Taraus. I' don't think I would be tempted to carry this particular gun that way though

Taurus seems to have a decent reputation for reliability also. One thing that is Important to me is I believe the guns are made here in America. The price difference is about $100 for a new one though is significant.

Spring kits are also available for the Taurus, if you need a lighter action. We have a PT 92 that my wife carries. She loves it. It's 100%.

It's a ten ring shooter for the standard CHL COF.

I've put about 1000 rounds through it and can honestly say it has never once jammed or had a failure to feed. I know its hard to believe, but in this case its a fact. I love it lots. It shoots very good. It is carried cocked and locked just like a 1911. It is a SA/DA. I do need to get a better holster for it.
