EDIT... THE AMMO WAS WINCHESTER, He just told me that he has had this box of ammo for 2 or 3 years...

Sold a 9mm to a friend and we went to the range for him to try it out.... He was shooting Winchester 9m 115g new in box ammo.... About 3 magazines of ammo in, the gun wouldn't go into battery all the way.... Once we got it home I broke it down and found the jacketed round just inside the head of the barrel.... He did say that he did notice a light fire right before but didn't think much of it... Fortunately since the bullet only traveled a very short distance, the next round wouldn't chamber all the way.. If it had, it could have been a bad situation......

Got a call into my gunsmith now to see if he can pull the round out of the barrel.


Winchester 9MM 115g AMMO...

Lucky to still have a hand (or eyes). I would take the lot number from the box, plus a picture and contact Remington. They should make this good. For my curiosity though, is it hard to use a wooden dowel to knock a bullet out? Some say a brass rod. Never done it but people do that with lead bullets all the time (slugging).

I had a squib a while ago with one of my 300blk reloads. Same situation, the bullet was jammed into the head of the barrel preventing the next round from being chambered. Was able to knock it out and carry on as normal.

I grabbed a wood dowel and was able to tap it out pretty easily... Barrel looks clean and no issues.....

I'll get the info on the ammo from my friend and send an email to Remington

I updated the first post... This was some Winchester ammo that he had for 2 or 3 years... Granted, it should not have gone bad in such a short time, but still.... Anyway... Nobody got hurt and the barrel is good to go as well.

You were fortunate. My Brother wasn't as lucky. No one hurt...but barrel ruined.

Why I always carry in my truck brass rods and a large C-Clamp works so easy also a piece of rubber for the barrel next to clamp.

It's not an age thing, if it stuck so close you couldn't chamber the next round (and thank God that was the case) there wouldn't have been any powder- just the primer.

I also carry a brass squib rod in my range bag, just in case.

I have seen several squibs with my classes. All of them with Winchester White Box. Last year I had an issue with a brand new Ruger 9mm (not extracting at all). I called Ruger, and she asked, "were you using Winchester White Box?". They seem to have a reputation.

Pretty much the same thing happened with some 5.56x45 Subsonic rounds from my Uncle thats been reloading for about 30 plus years. Figured I could rely on his reloads but after the first few rounds I noticed it jammed up, luckily I checked it out and sure enough the bullet was stuck. Just like you said the bullet came out with ease, figured it would be hard to remove at first. I learned a valuable lesson, luckily with no major damage to the equipment.

Yes, later on last night he and I talked and it was WWB.

My wife had a squib in her Canik TP9 and did not know. I found out when I went to clean it and the barrel had a slight bulge. Impressed with the quality of their barrels, would have never known if i hadn't opened it up. Needless to say we had a talk on slowing down when shooting and making sure it fires. Hard to tell for newbies at a busy range.

One thing I like about the 550- as I reach to index, my eye is drawn to the case in station 2 showing the powder before I advance... and then as I set a bullet on top, my eye goes to that charged case again- and I say "powder" as I see it and set the bullet on top.

Factory or handloads, every shooter should have a dowel rod in their shooting bag. Some can be found in aluminum as I use.
