This shotgun has a "blued" finish...

Can it, or should it, be possible to refinish (the parts that can be) the shotgun in a "parkerized" (ech, sp.) finish???

This is just something I was thinking about with all the other "mods" I want to do with it...

I have decided to hold off on the "pistol grip" stock idea...

I do though want to get those iron sights mounted that I was thinking about earlier...

Its either leave it be, which is fine by me...Or spend a little money to get it looking and functioning the way I want it...

Or sell it, and get something that I don't need to do much work on...

If its cost effective, I'll do it...If not I may need to think on it some more...

I parkerized a trusty Browning A-5 (my dove gun). This was probably 13-14 yrs ago and it set me back over $100 bucks as I recall. Parkerized coating is a great product, low gloss and durable. I chose it cause dovies react to sunlight reflecting off the mirror blue finish.

If you decide to do it, I am sure there are smiths around our area that do the work. Personalizing your weapons is great. Consider it the male version of "accessorizing"!

If its still in that price range, I can do that...

That gunsmith down on our end of town, just up the road from my office might get the nod, if he can do it...

Have you considered alternative finishes to parkerizing? The Gun Kote finishes, when done right, are very good. They are durable, look good, have many color choices, and have a small degree of lubricity. I've only had a few gun that were parkerized, and I was not real impressed with that finish. It seemed to scratch if it was so much a breathed on. I may not have given it a chance, but it just didn't seem very durable. Not to knock the method as it has been around a long time with good results.

If you interested in exploring this option, A friend of mine does this type of finish and I could connect you. What kind of gun is being finished? I'll call him at lunch and find out a price.

BTW, the process my friend uses is to completely strip the gun of all finish and then parkerize before applying the final finish. He says that the final finish adheres better to parkerizing.

Nope, I have not looked at much more than what I know about a finish for this Mossberg 500A pump action shotgun...

Its a short barrel (legal, no mods) 5 round capacity firearm...

It has a blued finish that looks to be stock, out of the box...It has a standard polymer (non-pistol grip) buttstock, and no additional bells and whistles...

To be honest I have never shot it...I intend to have an armorer/gunsmith do a once over on it and make doubly sure it is safe to operate...

And to make it worth their while, I had posted a while back about some things I wanted to do to it to make it even more usable/controllable...

I went back and forth on the whole pistol grip issue, and have decided to hold off on that mod at this time, and instead, get a good "subdued" finish on the shotgun...

If a few scratches get on the thing after I get that finish on there, I'm generally ok with that...I can always get another one put on there if it gets bad enough to do so...No big deal...

I do though, want to get a good "rifle" ironsight system put on there when I do get the work done...I suppose I could bolt/screw it on there myself, but I figure I let them mount it and true up the accuracy...Not tlike that'll be a big issue...
