This is back on 25 March.

At 2330 homeowner calls 911 about a man in a tree with a knife. Next door neighbor also calls 911 when Treeknife (TK) used a brick to break a window in next-door neighbor's (NDN) house, then tried to enter through some french doors. NDN arms himself and yells at TK to leave, who instead throws barbell through another window and enters house. NDN fires, hits TK in the arm, and NDN barricades his family in another room.
Deputies arrive on scene to find TK "flailing around and bleeding" on kitchen floor, but TK still has enough gas to fight with deputies and then run out the door -- where he fell off of a nine-foot unfinished deck.
Deputies apprehended him and took him to the hospital.

Reminds me of that old saying. "Never bring a knife to a gun fight".

Reminds me of Aim for center mass, keep pulling the trigger until the threat is neutralized!

I like happy endings.
I would not be too quick to judge just yet.
I fear that the NDN will face a civil suit for numerous reasons, including intentional harm, medical bills, support for his family during his recovery etc.
So, what in that story gave you some indication to believe that will be the outcome of this?

You left out the unsafe deck with no railing.

I think the defender is in a pretty good legal position in view of the fact that he fired only once and inflicted a non-life threatening wound, then barricaded his family against the defender to eliminate the need to inflict further damage. Under the reported circumstances he would have been well justified in firing until the threat was more definitively ended.

A little good news is such a blessing in these trying times.

I wonder what he was hopped up on. Drug induced crazes are tough to deal with, if you don't have a gun.

The NDN was probably aiming for center mass, but missed. Now, every anti-gun liberal nut will be screaming, "See, he just wounded him and everyone lived."
