A complex federal case involving a New Orleans man who allegedly made a living by causing car wrecks, a stuntwoman-turned-lawyer who represented him and her fiancé — a disbarred lawyer and convicted felon — took a gothic turn this week when the accused accident stager was fatally shot ahead of his arraignment.
Does that sound like a movie plot or what?

He was a "slammer," paid to drive a vehicle into other vehicles, generally commercial vehicles like semis, and then usually fled the scene, leaving another accomplice to claim to be the driver of the vehicle.

Two other "slammers" have died in the case but causes of death are not revealed.
