mrvmax is 100% correct. You should call police even if you feel that they are "harmless". You cannot judge intent or opportunity and the police are there to enforce the law. Last time we had these "magazine salespeople" in our development (and they had entered in violation of our policy) we experienced a "crime of opportunity". A resident had left their garage door open (also a violation of the HOA policies) and thereby left expensive belongs unattended. Those belongings were stolen and the perpetrators are long gone. Some residents who had those solicitors come to their door prior to the theft elected not to call police, as they claimed that they feared that the solicitor would "know who called the police". Needless to say it was a very sad comedy of errors and an expensive "lesson learned".
