What should remain obvious to the world is what's plain to see from the perspective of the lawfully armed citizen.

Given the necessity of mixing with a crowd of strangers in a dark alley, would it be safer to be in the company of 20 folks lawfully carrying, or 20 randomly chosen from the majority of citizens who don't carry?

Pitch me in the armed briar patch, please. It's where I was brung up. Them's my own kind!

It's not really guns and the philosophy of vigilance that does the trick. Amateur sailors, photographers, motorcyclists, vintage sports car buffs - any time there is a common bond, there is camaraderie.

And, of course, there's that big tyrannical downside to disarming us.

Nurture the armed citizen, nurture freedom. There's a reason the police didn't seem to mind handing a gun to that fellow.
