Return to “Why exactly does Texas not have open carry?”

I am not talking political party. I am talking all or nothing demanding personalty period. The old adage you catch a lot more flies with honey than vinegar totally applies here 100%. You come in and tell me that you are going to force me to do something and I will immediately be on the defensive, whether it is something I would like to do or not. In fast, I will more than likely NOT do that thing because of the adversarial attitude that has been displayed by the party wanting it.cb1000rider wrote:Keith,
The all or nothing rhetoric is very present on both sides of the isle. It only accomplishes alienation and more digging in.
Care to take a stab at which political party most OC loons identify with?
This sounds like typical all or nothing liberal rhetoric rant to me. What has killed open carry has been more the open carry loony advocates than any legislator. When you have a person who comes in 'demanding' that the legislator or any other official put open carry at the top of their agenda and make threats of retaliation if they don't, then I don't blame the legislator or other for stepping away. Being associated with these bomb throwers is poison for a person who is trying to ride the fine line in the political arena and do as much good as they can for their constituents. Open carry is not the only thing they have on their plates and if something gets seasoned with too much salt you tend to push it to the side and consume the rest. Using a little finesse and working in unison with those with the power to introduce and pass legislation is the ONLY thing that works. That is why we are so lucky in Texas to have Charles Cotton, Alice Tripp and the others who work so diligently to keep these folks on our side in helping us gain ground in the 2A realm.Dori wrote:Maybe that sounds too much like "pro choice" for Texas Republicans to allow it to pass.![]()
Or maybe they're not as pro gun as they want us to believe. Straus keeps getting reelected as Speaker of the House with his platform of killing open carry and campus carry in dark back rooms where it won't affect legislators' sham "A" ratings.

That does help some. But it's not exactly what I'm looking for. The law still basically say "its presence cannot be discernible through ordinary observation" [/i]as far as I am aware. Concealed still means concealed. In other words you can't be printing or be relaxed about concealment.
The law that makes it an offense to display your handgun says none of that. The law says you commit a violation if you INTENTIONALLY display your handgun, in a public place, in plain view of another.
Intent is defined in the code, and it means it was our conscious objective to engage in the conduct or to cause the result.
An inadvertent flash or exposure of your handgun is not and never was a violation. The law says NOTHING about printing, whatever that means.
33. What does concealed mean? Can I carry my handgun in plain view with my Concealed Handgun License (CHL)?
The weapon cannot be visible or discernible through ordinary observation. Texas Penal Code prohibits carrying the handgun in plain view. CHL holders may be subject to criminal charges for carrying a handgun in plain view.
GC §411.171. DEFINITIONS. In this subchapter:
(3) “Concealed handgun” means a handgun, the presence of which is
not openly discernible to the ordinary observation of a reasonable person
