Re: The Bible and guns

He left out Luke 22:35-38 which I like to paraphrase in my signature.-
35Then Jesus asked them, "When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?"
"Nothing," they answered.
36He said to them, "But now if you have a purse, take it, and also a bag; and if you don't have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one. 37It is written: 'And he was numbered with the transgressors'; and I tell you that this must be fulfilled in me. Yes, what is written about me is reaching its fulfillment."
38The disciples said, "See, Lord, here are two swords."
"That is enough," he replied.

And have a backup.

Jesus thought so much that his deciples should be able to protect themselves that even if they had to sell their cloak, they needed to get weapons.

In that day, their cloak was their shelter pure and simple. Without a good cover garment, one would probably die out in the elements. It was sleeping bag, tent, shelter from a sandstorm, cold, heat, and so on.

To me, Jesus is saying it is more important to be able to defend from human predators than it was to be comfortable.

This verse was also a warning that he would be gone soon but that's another discussion for another forum.
