I really hate to send my wife stories like this (I don't want her to think I'm just a fearmonger and trying to scare/manipulate her into learning to shoot/carrying - she won't stand for that), but this one might make me break my rule. Maybe I can just summarize it and present it to her as a "I read this story and it went something like this", but reading this guy's words might have a greater impact than just hearing my summation of them.

Just ask yourself this: How will I feel, if something happens to her, when I could have forewarned her?

Now, if she continues not to see the need to arm herself, you have at least done all you could to increase her awareness, thus, her safety.

You may feel free to tell her of my two escapes from attempted rape from my lawn man and the creep hiding in the stall in the Ladies' Room of the Dollar Cinema. BG's are not going to ask permission to harm you. If/when they come, it will be in your most innocent, unsuspecting moments.

Have your wife do this exercise:

Sit in church or any crowded, mixed, audience. Have her look for every fourth woman. Then, tell her the statistic that rocked my world, after my last "encounter:" One in every 4 females in the US is raped before she graduates from High School. By the time she reaches 50, 40% of the women in this country are raped, and as many as 80% have survived an attempted rape. Also, the highest growing demographic for rape is elderly women, who are often robbed and killed by their rapist. This came from some website that a friend was quoting, so I cannot give you a citation. I'm sorry. Even so, the scenario is eye-opening. Just the exercise, alone, woke me up and made me realize that I have many sisters, who have been in my shoes ... and we are all traumatized by it. For me, the cure was to get my CHL and do something pro-active to regain my equilibrium and sense of OK-ness, if that's a word.

Now, I'm a crusader for women's self-defense and awareness of this increasing problem.

I, too, walk with a limp from past auto accidents, and I've had a close call at our local Wal-Mart that is just off the freeway. I think the proximity to the freeway is a frustration, because the BG's can harm you and be gone before the LEO's arrive. Had it not been for an alert security guard at that same Wal-Mart, my neighbor's Granddaughter would have been snatched and taken to Mexico by coyotes to work the cocaine fields and plants. Her Mom is now getting her CHL, at my suggestion. We talked for over an hour on my front porch, and she wept and got it off her chest.

Our society is breaking down, and those who don't or won't believe/understand that will be the next victims. What disturbs me the most is the absolute, deafening silence in our local papers. They refuse to report these stories, because of political correctness, but let a cop or City Councilman sneeze, and it's front page news! Our Zip Code was issued over 400 CHL's last year ... the highest for any Zip Code in Texas. In addition, Statewide, the highest number of CHL's went to those in their 60's, next highest to those in their mid to late 50's. That ought to be telling us something about how the silent, greying, majority is really thinking.

As far as Wal-Mart goes, I'm declining to go there much anymore. I think their low prices are a draw for folks, who are more inclined to prey on others, to put it nicely. Having been the object of an incident there, myself, I'm thinking that it is better to pay a little more and mingle with a higher class of folks, and hopefully, be a bit safer. The best gun fight is the one you don't have. Don't know who said that, but I totally agree!


To the guy in the story, I don't like the use of my Lord's name as a curse word, (don't offend Him like that anymore) but you did a great job!
