Yup it is nice, have one.. the grip size is the same as my XD compact .45, but the XDm has a shorter overall length, and especially the .2 shorter barrel.

What I want in the XDs small over all and the slimmer grip, only something your going to get in a single stack gun.

I toyed with a Springfield Micro Compact 45 today......if my rifle sells, Im going for the Micro, if not, I'll save a bit until the XD's is available form my preferred store, and then choose..
If I didn't already have a gun in this category that I like a lot, I'd be a lot more interested in the XDs than I am. The gun I carry most frequently is a Kahr CW45, which is almost in the same class as the XDs, being a touch smaller than my 3" Kimber which it has gradually replaced in my carry rotation. For that reason, I came to the conclusion just this morning to put my Kimber up for sale to fund the Springfield XDm45 purchase.

I love that Kimber, but I've got two 1911s, that one and a 5" Springfield, and if I'm going to reduce my 1911 inventory to one gun, I'll keep the 5" model. And as much as I love the 1911 platform, my personal carry preferences have been moving toward the simpler, and so polymer framed guns with simple point and shoot fire control systems have become more practical to me for daily carry.....hence my Kahr PM9 and CW45 and S&W M&P45 purchases over the past 3 or 3 years. Heck, I've even carried my wife's Glock occasionally!

If I didn't already own the CW45, I would definitely take a hard look at the XDs.

Balance seemed ok, it points well... and it's single stack thin, but the grip is....LONG? front to rear.. they seemed to not have changed the grip at all, except made it thinner for the single stack. It is a weird feel... and not one Im sold on.... my XD compact and Sub are safe in the line up for today.. I'll sleep on it and have a feel again tomorrow.
So does this pistol have the exchangeable back strap inserts?
