How far is a sign effective for?
The short answer is: until you see another one that tells you something different than the one before.
Several years ago post 911, right after leaving the hospital, I was lighted up on MCB Camp Lejeune, NC for going over the posted 25 mph speed limit in my POV. I told the young MP that the sign we were both looking at says the speed limit is 35 mph. The young marine MP told me I wasn't to the next sign yet. The next sign was 100 feet ahead of us in clear view. The young gyrene ran my Contractor's ID and excused me because I was on a walking stick and old. Semper Fi!

The moral of this story is that the law is what the LEO of the moment says it is. You get a chance to pay your way out of the charge at the courthouse if you have a different interpretation of the charge.

Personally, I am still of the opinion that I can drive in the left lane of any freeway with 3 or more lanes in one direction if I am doing the speed limit, unless there is signage that says either "Slower Traffic keep Right," or "Keep Right Except to Pass," or words to that effect. I may be wrong, but that's what the way I read the law as written. In reality I don't do that, but I believe that it's legal if I want to.
Getting back on track, if the driver/s behind you don't like your speed or are otherwise being rude, there is always :fire .

...we do not have a real speed limit in Texas...
Well, one way to lower Texas' budget shortfall would be the elimination of those silly black on white signs all around the state that proclaim a non-existent speed limit. Another cost saving measure would be to eliminate the purchase and implementation of those radar thinghys employed by LEO's around the state to enforce the bogus speed limit restrictions.

Surely, I missed something. Has anyone seen my marbles? I must have misplaced them. :smilelol5:

I've discovered the best way to beat a ticket is to drive the speed limit. After all we are CHL holders - we are law abiding citizens.

Speeding is extremely selfish - Consider the rest of humanity and quit speeding ...

I'll step off my soapbox, but I'm serious about what I stated.

...selfish is THE word...I did it when I was a kid 'cause I thought I had to...did it when I was a cop cause I HAD to...when I quit, I decided I wasn't going to be in that much of a hurry ever again...so I don't purposely speed...and when I look down and see that I am...there's the brake pedal...my business is NOT more important than others...nor are there lives less important than mine....
The above sums up the question very succintly. If we're not gonna' abide by the traffic laws, what's the big deal with a 30.06 sign or the Post Office, etc?

I'm forever amazed at the number of people who absolutely, positively must get to the next traffic light before I do.
If one's mission, appointment, date or whatever is so important that one be somewhere by date and time certain, is it asking too much for consideration and planning that allows a timely departure without endangering others along the all important mission's route?
