You have a quota to meet or is motorist safety your concern?
Ticket quotas are illegal. My last department I was strictly traffic, and I had a stop quota, but no department can tell me I'm required to write even one ticket. Here is the thing though, people know what they are and are not supposed to do. Why bust my hump trying to chase someone down only to sternly tell them not to do what they already knew was wrong in the first place? If you're in the left lane blocking up traffic making people mad, how is that any less of a violation than speeding? I wrote a 97 year old lady her very first traffic ticket for blowing right through a stop sign. I caught flak for it, but what's the difference between her doing it, or a teenager in his Mustang? The danger is the same.
:iagree: Thanks for the clarification...sic 'em. (FWIW, I did get a speeding ticket on U.S. 27 in Florida in 1986.)

Re: Doing the Speed Limit and Being Abused For It!

It never fails, on this learned forum where laws and the constitution are frequently quoted and debated, someone will propose that posted speed limits are not the law and/or do not apply to/when......... :biggrinjester:

slower traffic waves back. It is common courtesy. At least it used to be.
It still happens that way. I had to instruct my husband (who moved here in his teens) in the practice shortly after we got married. I wasn't born here but moved here real young and my dad liked to live on what I referred to as the edge of nowhere -- close enough to the city that he could commute in for his work (tech stuff) but far enough out to have some breathing room. So I learned to drive on two-lane roads, and I still prefer them.
:iagree: all around. In our wanderings, we avoid interstates if any way reasonably possible.

A vehicle pulling a trailer with a motorcycle on it passed me. The vehicle had a moon roof allowing the driver to stick his entire arm up past his elbow to give me the old one finger salute. He put a lot of English into his endeavor. He really worked it!

My wife looked at me and laughed. I too was amused, but wondered about those who insist on everyone else speed well over the limit for their benefit. The stretch of road we were on is one where LEO's frequently wait by the roadside for speeders, so I'm especially certain to drive close to the limit.

My question and I hope some LEO's here will advise: In the above scenario is there something else I should do, like go 80 mph to satisfy others? Yes, I'm being facetious...and thanks.

Can you better describe the road? Was it a four lane (two in each direction) or two lane? Did the other vehicle have to cross over to the left side of the road to pass you? If so, was there an improved shoulder you could have pulled onto to allow the other vehicle to pass?
Texas is the only state I know of that condones passing on the right and/or driving on the shoulder. Are there others? BTW, we usually drive about 5 mph below the posted speed limit and may be towing our RV. Be sure and wave.
