Re: Poll: What would be your only rifle?
M1a in .308 given the limitations, but a scoped 30.06 savage bolt or model 70 would be a really close thought. I carry a lever .357 in the Gator or on the tractor most of the time on the ranch.

Re: Oiling a New Leather Holster (Inside)
No oil! Apart from compromising the shape (molding) by softening the leather, it will make sticky on drawing because of the shape collapsing. Another negative is that oil will attach and hold dirt inside the holster causing more wear on the surface of the pistol, much like emery paper. Please don't ...

Re: Best Gun for Target Shooting - What's Your Experience?
I was looking for more on target pistols here. I guess I hear .22 when anyone says target. My grandfather always called his old .22 single shot Sears rifle with the 28" bbl a target rifle. I have the Ruger SR22 and 22/45, but he most fun and accurate target I have is an S&W 617 revolver in ...

Re: austin gun show 2/09/13-2/10/13 weekend
I didn't see but one at $679..deliveries haven't been good lately to dealers. I talked to Joe McBride yesterday afternoon at his store and he said he had more than fifty back ordered. I saw some on gunbroker for $639 (or more) plus shipping plus FFL..got mine with a ministerial discount and can't te...

Re: austin gun show 2/09/13-2/10/13 weekend
Worked it with a gun dealer friend this morning...from opening till 1pm. It was busy. He sold about sixty during that period. Mainly handguns for personal defense and mostly to what seemed to be new gun owners. I haven't worked one in a couple years and was surprised at the high number of first time...

Re: Ruger LCR 22
I got one. Took it to the ranch last week and it worked fine. No failures. Feels good in the hand and sights well. Not sure I like the Ruger style spring retraction loading on mags, but the worked (It was 19 degrees with a norther blowing and I was loading using gloves....). Shot some 1 gallon cans ...

30 cal bullet question??
Ok, stupid question time. I haven't ever reloaded rifle.
On a .30 cal bullet, I have a bunch or 150 grain soft points, are they all useable on 30.06, .308, and on 30-30? ( I realize the flat on the end of the 30-30 because of the tube mag).
Thanks,

Hate to say it, but a lot depends on the ammo. I get +/- 3" dependent on the type.

Re: For my daughters
We got the granddaughter a cricket and it was great for a year or two, till she out grew the reach. Got her a Henry lever action last year and it is much closer to the Red Ryder BB gun she started with. It still has the a reasonably short stock, but not way too short like her Cricket. She is now 12....

Re: XDS 45 Ammo
I have been using the Gold Dot Short Barrel and the Hornady 185, both are supposed to have a reduced flash to keep from blinding you at night was my logic. The 185 grain weight for higher velocity and better expansion from the short bbl.

Re: Hispanics should be angry at the new 4473's
Now you've got me curious. I'm not sure I understand the validity of any of these questions. Sounds like I am guilty of answering that part incorrectly no matter how I answer it........or no matter what I say, it's partially true. Does it make me have any less Mexican heritage to have my people as M...

Re: Budget 308 bolt gun
I got a Savage Axis in .308 and 30.06 for leaving in the four wheeler at the ranch. $269 at Walmart. They do what they are supposed to with nothing fancy. I'm not worried about banging them around. I have a model 10 in .308 with all the goodies and the long barrel, the only difference I can see is t...
