I found that feature on my iPhone this past weekend. I was not sure how it worked. I thought it would send the message if I didn't answer. I get it now.

Can I set up an auto respond text that reads, "If you really gave a crap, you would have just answered the phone." :biggrinjester:

I don't get it either. :headscratch
Another common practice! I have had people text me back right after they don't answer.

OK, I'll agree with this. Example....... I do occasionally send and receive text messages from my phone, but I refuse to use texting as my primary means of communication. I mentor young men at my church, and sponsor others in CR, and the younger ones seem to think that texting is a perfectly normal means of communication......but I maintain that you CANNOT have a satisfactory conversation with someone by texting. If someone wants to have a conversation with me, CALL me. Texting is a lousy way to communicate. It takes longer too to type a lot of words out, then simply phoning and speaking. But a lot young whippersnappers would rather text.

I don't get it.

Funny you mention this TAM. I laugh when I hear one of these whippersnappers refer to texting as talking. Catch one one of them while they are in the throws of texting away and ask them, "What are you doing?". You will be surprised how often they respond with, "Oh nothing. Just talking to so and so.".

"So I pretty much live on my phone."

Mostly for chatting or business? Would you potentially break out in hives or feel anxious if you were denied access to your device?

"My sister inlaw and her husband come over for dinner and their noses are in their phones 80% of the time they are there. Drives me nuts! We can be sitting there eating dinner and they have their phones out. I look over at my wife and grimace and she silently mouths "sorry" to me. Zombies..."

I witness the above all too commonly. Such practice is quickly becoming a blight everywhere. Smart phones are surrogate people for many. Those afflicted can't seem to break the chains that bind them. The attention these devices are paid exceeds human interaction by leaps and bounds for this group. Smart phones are for many as addictive as crack cocaine. And no, it's not the phone's fault, it's the misuse.

Yes cell/smart phones provide benefits, but their use by many is pathological and ever increasing as the world seems to be taken over by these things.

No kidding and what would the numbers be on how many computers are connected to that? Jesus cripes! You are able to access tens of thousands of computers, all from your galaxy phone? I am amazed they are not more concerned with security than to allow cell phone access to such a huge system. You must have one heck of serious security clearance for that type access. Especially from a cell phone. Who the heck you work for anyway?

I noticed the same behavior when people try to quit smoking.
Same thing happens to me if I don't have access to this forum.

I had one of these before I had the one you are talking about.

I had a neighbor back in the days before "mobile" phones went mainstream who worked for one of the major phone companies. That looks just like a phone he showed me one night after work. He was telling me how his company believed this was the phone we would all be using in the future. Even he laughed at the idea. They were "making" he and the other techs use them. It was a trial period for determining the efficiency of using mobile phones. :smilelol5: The way I reacted to that phone, one would believe I was an Indian seeing white men for the first time. The cost per minute to use the thing was some crazy high dollar amount. I will never forget telling him how ridiculous I thought the whole idea was. Good night nurse! Why on earth would anyone want to talk on the phone while driving around town?

I sensed that Abraham was looking for kindred dinosaur spirits and tried to represent myself as potentially one of them. Thunder lizards need to stick together.
I am the opposite in this area - I still like my separate GPS, component stereo system, desktop [no laptop or tablet]. I still have a TV antenna - no cable or streaming. No iPod for me. I still like to read a good book, but I have been eyeing a Kindle. I still haven't upgraded my high end camera system to digital - that's more due to money than not liking the technology.
You still have a TV antenna? WOW! :eek6
I am a Tyrannosaurus! Except, I like my meat cooked. ;-)
I have an antenna. It's not connected. It is up in the attic and I never worked up the energy or give a hoot to drag it out of there.

Abraham wrote:I do own a pre-paid cell phone I use infrequently, but see no need for a smart phone for myself. I bought it originally as a safety item, turned off and stowed. I wonder if the majority who own smart phones really NEED them or are they more for recreational use?

What say you?
No you are not. My darned brother refuses to get a smart phone. I offered to buy him one. He said he would use it as a paper weight. He hates the darned things...LOL.
