Re: Motor homes

Great job! I always sleep better in our 5th wheeL when it rains. It is a plus with no busted knuckle and cracked bones.

Re: Motor homes

I hope you and your sweet wife have a good time and get some relaxation on this trip. My first trip out I worked myself to death trying to do everything the first time. Enjoy.

I used to dive in Lake Catherine back in the 80's. Also Lake Quachita in Arkansas is beautiful also. About 20' down it became real cold and crystal clear. That is a beautiful place. Someone just told me this week that Arkansas had the best parks and I should try Little Daisy. I know I love Beavers Bend in Broken Bow, OK.

Plus, before leaving I want my tanks to be fairly full for the "last" dump. I have no scientific proof but based on what I read and have experienced, a full tank creates a little suction or momentum to drain the black tank thoroughly and as mentioned before more water = better waste processing. Then, a full grey tank does a great job of cleaning the hose.

My black tank has the internal flush connection so I can get it very clean regardless but it's best to get that final good dump from the tank and make quicker, more efficient work for the little internal sprinklers.
:iagree: That is what I have been doing for years, but the last RV placed I stayed at a while back the owner help hook up everything and he opened my drains and said that was the best. When he went back to his place I shut the valves again and didn't open them until time to leave.

Me Too!!!

Edit: We need to all meet up at a State Park or RV park for a couple of days and of course it needs to be close to a range.

Re: Motor homes

Speaking of dumping. . . for others with experience. . .when set up and a "full sight" do you leave your gray and black water valves open or do you leave them close until 1/2 or so full and then empty them?

3. Even though mine had a heater (propane and thermostat) I found a little $ 40.00 ceramic space heater was more than efficient to heat the MH. I slept better knowing the space heater (in my mind anyway) was safer. I wasnt crazy about a fire in a TT or MH. It had a safety switch to shut it off if tipped over and was small enough to put out of the way.
We did the same in our other 5th wheel. What is nice about our new one is it has one of the electric fire places in it.

Not a great picture, but this is ours now. It is short enough I am not so nervous pulling it.

Re: Motor homes

Yesterday 3 people died in Terrell from this very thing of the trailer weight out of proportion. We set on I-20 going to get our grandson for over an hour without moving.

I see a lot people pulling trailers not level and much too fast. I always take my time because I would rather get there than never arrive.

Re: Motor homes

C-dub that is a great video to show how important it is to distribute the weight in all trailers, but especially in TT.

Re: Motor homes

WTR is right. I do the same. Don't buy into the RV TP thing. Just about all TP sold on the shelf will be fine for the RV at half the price.

The Annoyed Man wrote: But you use the same hose for black water as you do for gray water, right?
Yes sir. Just be sure to drain the black first and then the grey. Then rinse out the hose.

Oldgringo we have also done that for a three or four hour nap
And then moved on. Free is always good. I have noticed that some are not open to RV's anymore.

If you insert "rich, wearing trashed topsiders" that sounds like most of the private marinas/yacht clubs on the ICW.
Our experience over the last 15 years have been the exact opposite. The places we have been have quiet time at 10:00PM. Even before the 10:00PM quiet time it is has been very peaceful and relaxing. We have even stayed overnight in Cracker Barrels parking lot and took a small nap before moving on to our destination.

He doesn't need a diesel to pull this trailer. It's weight is only 2880. That can pulled with a light weight tow vehicle.
Being in construction I have pulled a great variety of weights and trailers with heavy 1/2 tons and 3/4 ton gas engine trucks. I bought a diesel in my last truck. There is nothing like a Cummins under the hood. He takes that trailer into the mountains with any type of grade and he will wish he had the torque of a diesel......been there done that. Diesel will give you better mileage and longivety.
You are wrong about this trailer and needing a diesel. I have pulled a 5th wheel for about 15 years. My last one was a 40' and I have pulled with a Ford F-250 diesel. I use a F-250 diesel today, but my trailer is 11,500 dry. Before our 5th wheel I pulled a TT with a Ford van. We went all over and never had one issue. I have met thousands who do not have diesel pulling TT all over.

His trailer is 2800 that could be pulled with a van. A diesel is a non issue when pulling such a light trailer.

Did you get stabilizers?

If not, get them installed before you pick it up.

They're inexpensive and you'll thank yourself a thousand times for getting them.
Don't quote me on this, but being a new trailer it should have 4 stabilizers already on the unit. One for each corner.
