cyphur wrote:flint, that Dojo is just down the street from me! I have been looking for a local dojo that taught something similiar, as I had some aikido and ju jit su instruction in high school, and some grappling instruction in the Army.

I will have to check that place out!

You'll fit right in with what they teach then. You'll see a heavy influence from Shen Chuan, Small circle jujitsu, Combat Hapkido, Aikibujitsu, Filipino Arnis stick & knife, and assorted styles of grappling.

Have fun.

Couldn't tell you what the problem was, I test all links before posting them...and it worked fine for me.
Musta been a fluke.

I may have to take a trip up to Rockwall and have a look at that place you mentioned.

thanks

If you want to read a pretty good article, pick up the July issue of SWAT magazine. Paul Britt (the owner of the Dojo I directed you to) has penned some worthwhile advice.

It will be well worth your time. You'll be dealing with Paul Britt.. tell him that Joe and all the guys in Nacogdoches said hi!

I'm not sure exactly what you guys are looking for. If the instruction you seek includes defense against Gun, Stick, Knife...then there are better systems than Krav Maga in my opinion.

I'm not "slamming" Krav Maga, the system is meant to be taught so that the techniques are easily learned, and are (for the most part) effective on the street, and it certainly has its merits.

I don't care for the way that their Gun techniques fail to control the weapon. Many times you see the arm being "restrained" while a strike is being delivered, but unless you actually control the weapon...then it is easily articulated and you end up shot anyway. Knife techniques (not much better IMO).

Of course, techniques might vary some from one instructor to another, but I'd go and watch before committing to anything.

If you guys are not too far from Rockwall, you can go to Paul Britt's place and receive first class instruction from a cop who's "been there and done that."

We both trained under the same instructors, and I know he offers a free week of instruction to let you see if the system is what you want. I am not trying to put a "plug" in for him, there are other good systems out there besides his. I believe he also offers seminars...that can be tailored toward any particular area of defense.
