My next acquisition, hopefully within the next week or so will be a 1911. My initial thought was to buy an "officers" size model with the thought of being able to use it as a possible carry gun, but now I am wondering if I should start out with a full size as my first 1911. Wondering if anyone has thoghts on this matter?

My problem there is that the Springfield in officers size takes a hefty jump in price; the only economical one is the full size GI model. I neglected to mention that I am interested in the Officers Model size.

WHat kind of a reputation do the Rock Island 1911's have? I am looking to get started with 1911's and don't have a large budget (have already purchased 2 Glocks, a Kel Tec and a S&W 637 in the last six months). I find it ironic that this gun is manufactured in the Phillipines since the 1911 was developed in response to stopping power issues in the Phillipines.
