I don't see the fee as that big a deal. It's about $.07 a day the first 5 years and half that afterwards. Based on your response, you're taking a perceived insult to the state pretty personally. I don't think that's what was intended.
And I don't thing suggesting that people leave is the best solution for the state. If you like things exactly the way they are, then anyone wanting to change anything should leave.. Some us might disagree or might want to have a respectful discussion.

We've spent the entire last six (6) summers in a half dozen or more OC states and we've never noticed (gawked at/been panicked/terrorized by) anyone in an OC configuration. OC is no big deal...where it's legal. You either do or you don't....it's called freedom of choice.
