Re: Why exactly does Texas not have open carry?
I don't see the fee as that big a deal. It's about $.07 a day the first 5 years and half that afterwards. Not something I would spend a lot of political influence on.Jason K wrote:How about reducing the fee from $140 to $70 or less? It would be a great way to increase the CHL holder numbers. Re: Why exactly does Texas not have open carry?
As Mr. Cotton stated in his previous post, the "in your face" approach is making it harder for legislators to support an OC bill.Jason K wrote:jmra wrote:OC is not legal in Texas because the people pushing the hardest for it are a bunch of idiots who don't know how to behave properly in public. Get these people to crawl back under their rocks and OC just might have a chance.
Charles, this is what I referred to.
IMHO, without that support OC doesn't stand a chance. Unfortunately for those who do support OC, the loudest voice currently is the wrong voice.
Given the fact that gay marriage has absolutely nothing to do with the topic, I'll forgo a response to your apples and oranges comparison.

Just because people criticize a part of our government (local, state, or federal) why does it have to mean that they're criticizing the state itself?
Based on your response, you're taking a perceived insult to the state pretty personally. I don't think that's what was intended.
And I don't thing suggesting that people leave is the best solution for the state. If you like things exactly the way they are, then anyone wanting to change anything should leave.. Some us might disagree or might want to have a respectful discussion.

I agree 100 %.Charles L. Cotton wrote:Murdering unborn babies under the guise of "choice" isn't remotely close to the open-carry issue.Dori wrote:Maybe that sounds too much like "pro choice" for Texas Republicans to allow it to pass.Oldgringo wrote:You reckon?
We've spent the entire last six (6) summers in a half dozen or more OC states and we've never noticed (gawked at/been panicked/terrorized by) anyone in an OC configuration. OC is no big deal...where it's legal. You either do or you don't....it's called freedom of choice.![]()

Chas.
Nor can I think of any circumstance where it would be a laughing matter.

I too don't know why open carry is not legal in Texas and blaming the "vocal" people pushing OC to me does not seem the answer. Perhaps we respond this way because we consider ourselves superior or elite as having CHL. I really don't know why we don't have OC, I personally would not OC but it wouldn't bother me.
I don't consider myself elite or superior. I consider myself to be fortunate to live in a state where I can carry a concealed handgun.

OC is not legal in Texas because the people pushing the hardest for it are a bunch of idiots who don't know how to behave properly in public. They believe in an in your face approach that has proven in the past to be counter productive to their stated goals.
