The dealership calls you and tells you that they recommend that you bring them in for a recall (voluntary, not mandatory) even though your cars seem to be ok and don't exhibit any problems they describe. They tell you that you will have them back in 30 days :-(. Now, you have to drive 1.5 hours to take the cars in to the dealer and take a day of vacation to do that (put a price on that). A week after they get to the dealer, the dealer tells you that it will now be 10-12 weeks before you get your cars back and that they are just now figuring out how to fix your cars so you realize that it may be longer than 12 weeks and the fix may not be the final fix. You ask to get your car back from the dealer until they get things figured out and can turn it around quickly and they tell you no, you can't have your property back (remember the voluntary part?). In Texas, you start lemon law proceedings and get your money back on your car. In the case of our pistols, we have our money tied up for a long time with nothing to shoot and a less than warm feeling that they have a final solution to the problem, and we have no recourse to drive a quick solution to the problem.
Since you think it is whining, please let me hold on to two of your newest pistols until I get mine back and we will see how that goes for you.
In case you're wondering, and I'm sure it doesn't make any difference, My 2 week old XDs was shipped to Springfield on Aug 29, the morning after the recall was announced. So, yes, I DO have skin in the game. A
potential safety issue was brought to light, Springfield put some thought into the issue, and decided to spend several million dollars on parts upgrades for 250,000+ pistols in a
voluntary recall. For what it's worth, I only put a couple hundred rounds through my XDs before the recall ..... and, funny thing, it never slam fired, nor did it go full auto, nor did it magically sneak out of my house and shoot anyone while I wasn't looking.
I can understand those that bought the XDs as their first handgun being upset over the issue .... I've had a few guns myself that went back to the mothership in my lifetime. But, when the manufacturer is paying shipping, both ways, and doing a safety upgrade for the benefit of the user and the public in general, why do some feel like Springfield owes them some kind of extra goodie bag.
As for me, and any prior/current relationship with Springfield ..... I've only owned one other firearm (still have it) with the Springfield label on it - an 1872 Rolling Block rifle, in .50-70 Government (actually manufactured by Remington). So, no, I don't "work" for Springfield.
