now if i were getting one of my glocks refinished for appearence and durability, i would look no futher then robarguns.com...ask for the np3 finish and you will be done...
Actually, this would be for a S&W J-frame I'm contemplating buying (it's finish is not a goner yet, but it's getting there and I want to have some idea of a refinishing costs before I decide to buy the gun).

The NP3 appears to be a nickel (silver) finish, yes?

I think I like a black finish much better. I found this site via another web forum. http://www.coalcreekarmory.com/custom_finishing.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Sounds like ferritic_nitrobarburizing is what I'm looking for (if it can be done to a wheel gun) .... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ferritic_nitrocarburizing" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Re: refinish

So what is the toughest finish available? If I refinish a gun, I prefer a black finish (instead of nickel or chrome looks) and I want something as good or better than Glock tenifer. Anyone have opinions/ideas?

Parkerizing doesn't seem as tough as tenifer. Whatever is done to mil-spec AR-15s seems close, but still not as durable as tenifer.
