I decided to get a CHL to protect myself and my family. Taking a huge risk of getting bogged down in legal bills or jail by starting a gunfight in a busy grocery store to protect someone else's insured money does exactly the opposite of that.Slice wrote:The findings of the masses that replied here are there are those that would and others that would not. Tell me again Why are we CHL holders ?
well everyone has their own reason for having one. OR were we all told different things in our classes by the instructors of what we can and can not do
oh we can, it seems most are afraid to get involved or of lawsuits etc

Re: Bank Robbery @ Kroger store
Every grocery store bank I've ever seen is at the very front of the store, so the only way that is plausible is if you were literally at the cash register at the moment of the robbery, or the bank robber was so oblivious that he didn't notice the guy duck-walking up behind him between the checkout lanes and turn around to shoot at you and everybody standing near you, and that nobody else in line screamed or otherwise drew attention to you when you started to draw on the guy.Morgan wrote:Well... NO. Let me use several examples of stores *I* go to....
I could easily have a clear shot at someone at the banking area if I can have a firing angle that doesn't put the clerk in danger, and the wall behind them in brick. So..............

Re: Bank Robbery @ Kroger store
Hence why I said "imagine any grocery store layout." You are either going to be firing directly at windows going out into the parking lot, or firing back into a store full of people that are behind thin shelving units that prevent you from seeing them, but will not stop bullets.Morgan wrote:Now you're projecting your experience with a specific store and a specific incident. Thanks for proving my point. The question to which we are responding isn't "what would you do at 1:20 p.m. at this specific store."koolaid wrote:
I live like three blocks from this Kroger, am very familiar with the layout, and I still say that the people who have a first reaction of starting a gunfight in the middle of a busy grocery store are nuts. Imagine any grocery store layout. How exactly are you going to line up a shot that doesn't put shoppers or employees in the line of fire? The guy robbing the bank shot at the floor and still managed to hit somebody.
You are also running a huge risk pulling out a gun during a bank robbery and shooting towards the bank that someone is going to think you are an accomplice, drawing attention to you and either making you a huge target or getting shot yourself.
Lay low, call the cops, and stay out of the way. If the guy was randomly putting bullets in shoppers, that would be a different story.

I think one huge variable is that when given this scenario, each one of us visualizes ourselves in line at our own local store, which has a different layout to the bank area than each other. Sure there are similarities but each location provides a different tactical picture in our hypothetical model and that creates a greater variation in our specific answers.
So yeah... it depends.
