But it's different for visitors. If you live on base there are rules to allow you to store and have access to your personal firearms. If you are a non-military visitor to a base/post you can't bring it with you. Some have provisions for temporary storage at one of the base armories and may require an escort. Carrying on federal property is prohibited with few exceptions. If you are military and wish to take your gun(s) TDY with you, your orders need to specify that you are allowed.
