How are not writing the OP a ticket and showing professionalism correlated? I understand that nobody likes getting tickets...but I don't see how either outcome would be related to officer's professionalism as long as he/she is fair and consistent in his citing for violations. (loaded issue...)
I won't try to read USA1's mind, but I interpreted "professionalism" in this case to mean the officer showed goodwill towards the OP. He had every right to issue a ticket for a violation, but chose not to for whatever reason. Right or wrong, that gives me a greater respect for the officer.

You are correct though, had he issued a ticket to him, wouldn't make him any less professional.
