Re: Fifth Amendment a "firewall"

ScottDLS wrote:Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863, two years after the American Civil War started, but your point is still valid.
You are, of course, correct. I got a little over zealous.

Still, when Lincoln was elected, the southern Democrats saw the writing on the wall and that lead to the Civil War. Slavery was not the ONLY issue, but it was a big one.

Re: Fifth Amendment a "firewall"

This is nothing new for the Democrats.

When a Republican signed the Emancipation Proclamation, southern Democrats decided to secede and the Civil War followed. That means the Confederate Battle Flag today's Dems love to vilify is actually one of their symbols.

After the Civil War, the Democrats enacted Jim Crow laws. If a white man was caught with a gun, he got a wink and a nod. Not so for a black man. Republicans bought rifles and gave them to blacks so they would have a chance of defending their homes and families against the Democrat KKK.

In the sixties, it was Democrats that fought desegregation. The vast majority, if not all, of the politicians that were so vocally against equal rights were Democrats.

The list goes on and on and on and on. The Democrats have always fought against personal rights.
