Little Glocks

I want a "Baby Glock", but don't know which to buy....guys, please provide some feedback. I enjoy carrying my G17 but it is a bit bulky for my afternoon walk around the neighborhood. I love 9mm but am willing to give the G27 a try! I have never shot one and do not know if the recoil is ridiculous or not. Thanks!

I have a G-26. Same size as the G-27 only it's 9mm. It is a great little gun. Carry it most of the time. Since you already have a 17 you would be able to use the same ammo for both.

You are welcome to try it if we meet up at PSC.

+1 on the G26. I carry it daily. It is light and easy to shoot. The G27's recoil isn't "ridiculous", but it is quite snappy. Nothing you couldn't handle though as long as you don't mind gripping a small, short gun. The 9mm is a whole lot cheaper to shoot though.

I've got a 27. As was said, the recoil is noticeable.

My hands are large enough that I needed to get extensions on my mags - you can get them as just extra length for your fingers or to give you extra capacity.

Another thing to check out .... within the same caliber, the magazines for the larger models will fit and function in the smalller models. You'd have to check yours out to be sure, but you could have the G26 magazine in the gun, and carry the G17 mag(s) as spares. At least it works with my 27.

Another FWIW, I've shot the .357 SIG version, and found that the felt recoil is noticeably LESS than with the 27. But .357 SIG ammo isn't cheap.

I have a G-27 and would be happy to let you shoot it at PSC to see if you like it. I'll be at the TSRA Annual Meeting this weekend, but I plan to be at PSC the following Sunday afternoon, if you want to join us.

For what it's worth, the G-27 spends all of its time in the safe, not in my wife's purse where it rode for a short while.

Anyway...If we had to use it in a pinch we would...Even though I bought it from another forum participant here...We are having to keep it in reserve for now...

Its just too much of a caliber for such a small frame...

I certainly think it carries the same functionality as its bigger brothers, but its just a bit too much...

By all means take Charles up on shooting his at PSC...

If you got to get a sub-compact Glock...Get that G26 (9mm)...

As far as carry methods, I'd still try to find a good holster, and not get into any of the pocket or purse carry methods...To many things that could happen when you have to reach for such a small framed pistol if you carry it in that manner...Small of the back, or a nice IWB rig would be something to consider...

I carry a G33 (357sig). I use a =1 extention on the mag. I have a back up mag that is large capacity w/ sleeve to give it a full grip.

The ammo. is to expensive to play a lot. I am considering a 40 cal. barrel. Save some on ammo.

The small frame is not a problem. I am testing out carry w/a kangaroo holster. So far it is working out. Driving a company car w/ no gun policy makes it difficult.

Seems like that I picked up somewhere that the original Glock 17 was their 17'th product (military shovels and such, but no prior firearms). The same size, but full-auto Glock 18 was next. Glock 19 (9mm compact) was introduced next, etc. They were up to Model number 23 when I got one (.40 compact) for birthday in late 1990 and are now up into the high thirties.

FWIW, they also make .380s, which are typically unavalable in this country.

Definately go for the G26! It's small, it's light and you can use the G17 & G19 mags. You could even carry one of the 33 rounders for a spare if you wanted to. It should fit any holster you have for the G17. It's great for SmartCarry use.

I have a G33 (357 SIG) and I also have a 40 S&W barrel for it. I have an aftermarket (EFK Fire Dragon) 9mm conversion barrel. The 9mm conversion barrel is NOT GOOD for carry, it jams on the feed ramp. But it's OK for cheap practice shooting.

If you like Glocks you can't go wrong.

Other brands are available too: Kel-Tec P11, Kahar, Robar, Walther/S&W 99 compact, Springfield XD, Taurus Mil Pro. That's the ones I can think of that are equal or smaller in size.

If you want really small and light, consider a Kel-Tec P32 (32acp) or a K-T P3AT(380acp). That's small & light
