I guess I'm a bit puzzled here. While certainly there are lots of processing horror stories out there, why should Simone or anyone else at DPS be expected to fall on their sword in this case when it is my understanding that the FBI rejected the prints, and Simone was simply passing along the message?

It looks to me like the beef should be with the folks who got paid to take the rejected prints as others have suggested.

When you go to have your prints redone, consider bringing a couple alcohol wipes like the ones used in doctor's offices and wipe the pads of your fingers just before the prints are taken to remove any oils. Materials like hand lotion left on the skin can sometimes interfere with getting a clear image, leading to rejection of the prints.
