Bulge was too big

#1

Post by Ned Stockton »

Got my plastic in the mail July 1st, tried carrying my colt defender .45 but in summer cloths the bulge is too big,I have a crossbreed super tuck on order but that will take a while so I went looking for something smaller ,with my big hands subcompact autos don't feel right . When I went to my favorite gun store he had a kahr CW9 .It hides much better than my defender ,shoots great and I don't feel like everyone can tell that I'm carrying.

I think part of getting your plastic, is that everything you carry feels like you have a bazooka under your shirt. I know thats how I felt. I carry a full size Glock 22 and when I first started carrying it, I just knew everyone could see it, but quite the opposite. I carry it in a Crossbreed Super and everyone freaks out when I tell them I have it on. So I got passed the idea of thinking everyone could see it. :cheers2:

I carry a full size 1911 with shorts and a t-shirt. Just got to get comfortable.

But I've decided to get a 3.5" 1911, but only for weight. Fatigue is my only issue.

Definitely overdressed with the jacket.

I have begun to dress down a little since I've gotten my IWB Minotaur. I've realized how easy it is to carry with that thing and just a loose t-shirt that is long enough. One size up with some color is good enough. Even a white one is good if it's not too thin.

I carry a Sig P239 IWB under a untucked T-shirt and tucked dress shirts. My daughter knows I carry and is uncomfortable with me carrying in her home. She has never noticed that I carry every time I'm at her house. Through multiple hugs and goodbyes, working in the back yard cutting down trees (in shorts and a t-shirt) and numerous other activities, she's never noticed. No store or restaurant I've ever been in (I carry all the time, except at work where I can't) has said anything nor have any of the patrons. I really think the previous comments are right. You just need to get comfortable with carrying. It takes a little time, and you'll be self-conscious at first, but eventually it will become second nature. That's assuming, of course, that you have the right gear and you aren't doing something obvious.

Shirts with a pattern hide bulges much better than solid colors. It doesn't have to be full Hawaiian - any pattern helps break up the contours of a bulge.

If you have to go with a solid color, dark colors work better than light.

Now that i'm old enough for Medicare nobocy notices the bumps and bulges. :evil2: Shirts one size larger and worn untucked work well for me. I carry two or three guns nobody is the wiser.

No problems with full size 1911 under tucked dress shirt and LCP back up in front pocket. Just today I took my better half to lunch at the local Chinese restaurant where several local police were eating. They never gave me a second look. Conceal and forget about it. Don't tug, tuck, or fidget. Relax.

Definitely! I think I only have one t-shirt with a pattern down to where my carry bulge would be. I don't go with just the t-shirt very often, but know that I can.

You are not as obvious as you think you are. I spent most of the afternoon and evening at Kehma carrying a full size 1911 with two extra mags. I had the 1911 in my Crossbreed Supertuck, the extra mags in my cargo shorts, and covered everything up with an untucked Polo-style shirt. I'm 5'9" and weigh 165lbs.

People are just not looking for a guy with a gun. My "suburban dad" fashion style helps a bit too.

I bet if you wear it more often you will get more comfortable with it over time. That being said, I also carry a Kahr MK9 when I don't want to deal with the size and weight of the 1911.

Plaid pattern button front shirts by companies like Dickies (often available for $12 or so in WalMart) are terrific bulge hiders and they fit in very well in any informal environment in TX.

I think that people have become so used to bulges and lumps that there is nothing to worry about. I mean seriously, how big are phones going to get. I'm a fairly big guy (6'1"-220) and my lc9 generally rides in my pocket. Can you see it? A little, but in a nemisis, it is protrudes less than my wallet and phone and has an almost square outline. You will always print more to yourself than to anyone else, you can feel it but more importantly you KNOW that it's a there. Kinda like how easy it is to find waldo after you know he's there. I was super worried about it for a while, bought a little taurus tcp .380 'til I realized how easy it is to conceal larger weapons. I just didn't think I looked cool enough doing my boxer shorts Jack Bauer rolls in front of my bathroom mirror with the little 380. (Don't lie, you've all done it)
