Pressure to conform and mistreatment of outsiders is not beneficial to any group that wants to increase their influence or audience.
In what way have you been mistreated on this forum? A number of people have made constructive suggestions regarding your situation. In my reading, I don't see how any of them could be misconstrued as 'mistreatment'.

Having been one of the few to read your original post, I tend to agree that you're painting the 'ccw-culture' with an overly broad brush. Maybe you should take a second look, and think that maybe folks are just trying to help. If the advice they offer isn't applicable to your situation, file it away for later use.

I have the cycling clothes and the guns... I can even conceal in those clothes. How's that for non-conformist?

I didn't get to read your post; you deleted it before I had the opportunity. I wish you had left it up.

I agree too. I wish that I had the chance to read his thoughts...sounds like it would have made for some good debate -

Seems as though others have had the chance to read it, I wonder if someone who has a copy could pm it.

I have real short hair, it itches if I let it get much more than a half inch, but I do wear an earring.

I have to be careful to keep my hair trimmed fairly short or my grown kids accuse me of sporting a skullet.

I did read the post and was preparing a rather lengthy and detailed response, but I never thought for a secoind that it would be delted before I could finish as I was. I really wish that I would have copied it first.

I was busy this morning and had business to attend to before I coule finish my reply.

I will post my partial response here in hopes that the original post is replaced.

mr.72,

It's quite obvious that you have put much thought into this topic, and your post is quite well written. However, I do think that there are a few things that you should understand. First, let me state that I am not offended by your post in any way, but I am not a fan of being stereotyped. Nobody is asking you conform to anything, much less become a "gun nut". This forum is dedicated to concealed carry, general gun discussion, and the preservation of our 2A rights. You are going to encounter some folks that that are VERY passionate about, carrying a gun for self defense, gun ownership, and preserving the right to engage in these activities or hobbies depending on their level of participation. Passion is largely a good thing and should not be confused with elitist behavior. Passion after all, played a huge part in the freedoms that we have as American’s.

I am sure that you encountered similar levels of passion and enthusiasm while being involved in your other hobbies. I for one cycle and am an avid SCUBA diver and weight lifter and I have been around some rather hardcore folks in all three sports.

I would love the opportunity to finish my response if you will repost.

A little constructive conversation never hurt anyone. I didn't take your comments as whining, just voicing your point of view.

I too was one of the few that got to read it. I would also add my name to the list of people that would like to see it brought back. I know I am not on your good list but I still enjoy a good read and this was one.

Though out my life there have been several hobbies that I have tried over the years. From the old paper and dice RPG days to Motorcycles and Paintball. I have been called a great many names from Big scary guy that no one wanted to get to know to Dungeons and Dragons playing dork(If you can believe that) and I am sure several names that will not be mentioned here. Every niche is going to have the fair share of hard core types. The gun niche is no different. You can’t label every one with the same label because everyone is different in their own ways. We all offered you advice that you asked for and I think it was the way you received it that set some people off. I also noticed that you seem to over look some things that might have helped. In the How to conceal big guns post you mentioned that you didn’t know what I looked like however on the previous page I posted a image of what I do look like. There wear some including myself that still tried to give suggestions even after you so sternly told everyone that you where not going to change in any way.

What you fail to realize is that you have already changed because you carry a gun. You are not the same person that you where before you made the investment to become a gun owner. Just like you were not the same person you were before you got into Cycling. All actions shape the person you are to become. You cannot go back or unlearn what you have learned. It’s that part of you that makes you, YOU. So I say post it again and let what you learned be passed on to others. You might think that only bad can come from it but is you don’t repost it you will never know the good that is also there as well. You also mention in the deleted post that you got into guns from watching the possibilities you see on Television and movies and such. I really hope that is as close as you ever have to come too real in your face violence. I have stared down the barrel of a gun and came within inches of not being able to post here tonight. I really don’t want to go into that in this post but I hope no one has to ever go through that.

If there was one type of clothing then everyone would look the same, if there was one type of car we would all be driving the same thing, if there was one type of person then life would be very boring but we wouldn’t know it. It is what it is. You might think that you are not a CCW but you are. I too am a CCW However that is not all we are. I am a Texan, a Biker, an IDPA shooter, a Network Analyst, a Gamer, a voter, a loving husband, a caring father, a Sci-fi nut, a movie goer ,a paint ball player, and the list could go on. But most of all I am an American that allows me to be all these things. :patriot:

From what I can tell about you is that you are a well spoken, gun carrying, cyclist that knows what he wants that seems to get rattled easy. So please place the post back up there and let it do some good for others to see and don’t worry about what people say. If it gets to bad then the mods can handle it. From what I have seen they are pretty good about that. :thumbs2:

I am not going to re-post it.

Also this is not the "CCW a full sized pistol" thread, even though some of you seem to be stuck in that groove. I am a member of 3 different CCW/gun forums and the original post in this thread was related to my experience on all of them along with interactions at gun shops and other personal interactions, not just one thread on this forum.

Many of you are suggesting that I am easily rattled or I have a thin skin and that's not the case. Mostly it's that I took the time to write out what I thought was a clear, reasoned, and non-antagonizing post and it only took two replies for someone to pop in and start name calling. It's just not worth it. But still the chorus of respondents on this thread almost universally are trying to tell me I am wrong. Some who didn't even read the original post are finding another thread on this forum to refer to and tell me I am wrong. I find that kind of amusingly ironic. There is one member of this forum who continues to remind me of the virtue of not posting in threads that may be controversial. I am going to see if I can take that advice.
