Re: Bounce check

If the check bounced because of NSF funds, you can always take it directly to their bank to have it drawn against the account (again). Usually if you go on the first or 15th day of the month, or every other Friday, you can almost always get the money at some point. Some banks will even verify availability of funds if you call them and ask for a verification. That takes making 'contact' with the check writer out of the issue if they are not returning/avoiding your calls. If it was returned due to closed account, then you can file charges with the DA for theft by check - make sure you have notified the check writer by certified mail of the situation. You can file theft by check charges if it is NSF funds, too, but usually you have a better chance of recovering money if you work it out before charges are filed. I know, I know, so many hoops to jump through for something that is rightfully yours, but if the check writer isn't cooperating, then I would imagine he has done this to other people as well. Time to make an example of him or her.

I am not a lawyer, but I did run the finance department of a multi-million dollar real estate company, and I collected on MANY NSF checks!! Good luck!
