Instructor renewal

Post by thetexan »

What's the latest on what we are to do about renewing for those of us expiring on 12/31/15?

I presume the requalification is still applicable.

Everyone who has been an instructor over a year will expire at the end of 2015. DPS has not sent out any info at this time. They have the statutorial leeway for us to renew online, so it is assumed that is going to be the method.

Keith B; we were indeed told by the troopers during this last class that this next renewal will in fact be an online affair.

Got an email from Christi at DPS today saying that we are indeed going to get a notification soon. Also got a notice that they are taking the DPS server down on Sunday for a modification. Perhaps to load the link to the video and affidavit that we watched it?

It will indeed be an online renewal process this year. Log in to the DPS' website to pay your renewal fee, & submit your CHL-90 either via email, fax, or uploading similar to your CHL-8's. If your NRA or other instructor certificate on file with them is still current, no other action is required.

The last online renewal had an exam instructors had to pass. I haven't heard that was deleted, but it's possible.

I am curious about how they are going to cover the open carry details with us. And more specifically, with those of us that took the class this year. The May class had no open carry discussion or coverage.
