I got my first 1911

Post by CoffeeNut »

and I'm hooked!

I got a Rock Island GI in .45 and I am extremely pleased with it. I plan to throw some checkered grips on it and pair it with an El Paso Saddlery tanker holster for the opening day of open carry. According to the manual they suggest a break-in of 500 rounds and I'm more than happy to have an excuse to take her out to the range. I had a few failures to fully feed but they cleared up in the first 20 rounds and for all I know that could have been me limp wristing the thing since I haven't shot .45 in a long time.

Took my first shots at 15 feet and decided I could back up...

Thanks! SO many options out there but this one won me over. The classic look really appeals to me.

Definitely looks like a working gun. The only thing I'd add is the standard Hogues that ride on all my 1911's. Looks like you're shooting it well already, too

You must be a young guy. You didn't complain about the tiny GI sights. ;-)

Yeah I'm in the sub 30 club on this forum but it hasn't stopped me from looking at the Trijicon sight set ;-)

Congrats. 1911's are timeless and by far my favorite handgun to shoot. I don't get enjoyment out of shooting plastic guns (but I couldn't live without my glocks).

Very nice. I wonder if Rock Island (Armscor) has produced more 1911's than any other manufacturer. I wouldn't be surprised.

I'm pretty sure I have seen/heard that somewhere. My serial # is in the one million range.

It is already my favorite gun to shoot at the range. Just incredibly pleasant to shoot.

These are the sights you'll want, then: http://www.midwayusa.com/product/357574 ... tium-green

Note that it will require special tools and skills to remove & install the front sight.

There is nothing that quite compares to the fit and feel of a classic 1911. And shooting the vaunted .45 ACP from the platform is pure joy! Might as well just go ahead and double your ammo budget now, though.
