Well...okay then. Lots of solutions (none of them good) looking for a problem in that article.
Although the professor is supposedly a learned man, it seems that he hasn't realized that someone intent on hurting him will most assuredly ignore the "no guns" signs / rules on campus....

Legal conceal carry doesn't enhance that threat, the fact that he's a pompous rear does.According to Inside Higher Ed, Hamermesh said that the concealed carry law was particularly dangerous in a large class: "With a huge group of students my perception is that the risk that a disgruntled student might bring a gun into the classroom and start shooting at me has been substantially enhanced by the concealed-carry law."

Is it just me or at times was he actually making the argument for campus carry?
My take on what he said was, I'm afraid of some bad guy with a gun so I want a good guy with a gun there to protect me.

Chance favors the prepared. Making good people helpless doesn't make bad people harmless.

A faculty member concerned about weapons in the classroom could consult the database to find out whether any student had a permit. If so, the faculty member might demand an armed security guard to be present for all class sessions in case a gunfight broke out. The guard would be armed with an appropriate weapon, say an assault rifle, and equipped with body armor. Likewise, if a faculty member wanted to avoid attack from a "bad guy with a gun" in a class where there was no "good guy with a gun," she could ask for armed security.
that part i really like..... afraid of a student with a CHL so lets put somebody in with an assault rifle and body armor.... instead of less guns now you have more guns...
how would "she" know if there's a bad guy with a gun in her class...... by the time she finds out.... be to late to ask for an armed security

The implicit assumption is that anyone, everyone, with a permit, is a "bad guy."

I just love to see how in their minds, that "gun free" zones actually work.
