Couldn't stand it, had to call tonite after my boss called me and said his was in the mail. We took the class together, but he didn't get his prints done until 10/5. So the guy on the phone tonite tells me they have everything they need, but something popped up in the background check and a technician is checking it out. WTH?!? Something popped up? I got my CHL in '97 when they first came out, but did not renew in 2000 when it expired. Something popped up? I've never been arrested, so I don't understand what popped up? SMH :confused5

That's weird! From what I've been told they do not start the process until everything has been received. That being said, your boss got his way sooner than us!

Received this email today,

"Thank you for using the Regulatory Services Division’s website.

We have received all the necessary information for your new application at this time. There is no further action needed from you and you do not need to mail us any further documentation. These will be forwarded to a specialist for review and/or processing. You will not see a status change online for 3-4 weeks from this email. If anything further is missing we will contact you by regular mail. Renewals take 45 days to process from the date you receive this email. New applications take 60 days to process.

If you would like to check you status online, you can log in under “returning users”:

https://txapps.texas.gov/txapp/txdps/chl/

Again, you will not see a status change on this site for 3-4 weeks from the time you receive this email.

If we need any further information from you, you will be contacted by regular US mail."

Looks like I'll be here awhile. :banghead:

I suspect the closer we get to Christmas (AKA the 1st for Open carry ;-) ) the wait time is going to get a fair amount longer.

Congratulations! I was told that I was approved on Monday but the website still hasn't changed, so I don't know what the problem is?

That's exactly what I told my buddy a week ago that hasn't submitted his app.

I was told mine was being mailed when I called Friday morning. The website has never changed, so I just assumed it still hasn't been mailed. Maybe it has and the website won't change for me either.

Online app - Aug 31
Fingerprints - Sept 17
CHL 100 submitted - Sept 22 email confirmation same day

Still waiting. I'm calling Monday!!
Any word? Website still hasn't changed for me. I know they have already started my bg check, but that should be literally instant. I have almost no criminal history; no arrests (luckily), I have had my fair share of tickets but nothing violent and only class C tickets. Plus I've bought 3 guns this year and all three I was out of the store within 30 minutes (mind you some browsing time).
A CHL background check is much more thorough than a NICS check. The following is what I saw in another thread on here. I assume it to be true.

"DPS sends an employee into each county where you have lived for the last 5 years (5 I believe) to conduct an in person background. They check the county and district criminal clerk and District civil clerk. The tax assessor is also queried"
And what if you lived out of state basically the previous 4 years?
