Finally took my CHL class

Post by Antares »

I must admit I never expected a class of 40 people the instructed said that it was so large because people wanted to take the class before the end of the year. I remember taking the CCW class in MO and I was the only person. I am also surprised at the number of steps involved in MO you took the class and went to the sheriffs office to pay the fee and be finger printed. Here you have to find a place that does electronic fingerprinting. Most were filled up till January but I was lucky to find a place close by for Wednesday. I live in Harris county so when I submit my paperwork Wednesday I hope it doesn't take a lot longer to get it because it is where Houston is. In MO if you were in the county where St Louis is or Kansas city is you were in for a long wait and had to jump through a lot of hoops, like making appointment that took weeks to get. I must say I love Texas and I am so happy to have moved here. Seabrook and El Lago is a great place and I love to see all the water and big ships, prettier than the farmland in rural MO where I lived.

hey Antares, well if a clean record, maybe you will get them in a month. IF YOU HAVE a record, you will wait almost 60 days for sure. I think you will wait more than 30 days even with a clean record. With all the bad news, people are applying at break neck speeds.

With uptick in applicants and holiday season, it might be a little slower, but 30 days was about spot on with mine. I noticed Saturday the local range's CHL Class was 67 folks. That's more than double the norm I see there or experienced with mine at the same place.

I took a look at the DPS fiscal year ending Aug. 2015, and in those twelve months they issued 212,795 applicants permits but only denied 1,049, or, ~0.5%. IOW, unless you have hiccups on your record, be patient even if slower than normal.

I just received a confirmation that received my LTC documents and they said it could take up to six weeks. That's not to bad. I am hoping I get it sooner. BTW the only thing on my record is that I held a CCW permit in MO for the last 5 years. Hope you all have a very Merry Christmas and please don't forget what this holiday is about.
